‼️DID YOU KNOW‼️
Global warming can have a significant impact on ocean currents? As the Earth's temperature rises, the melting of polar ice caps can cause changes in the salinity of ocean water, which can disrupt the natural flow of currents. This can lead to changes in weather patterns, affecting everything from precipitation levels to sea levels. In fact, scientists believe that global warming may be a contributing factor to the recent slowdown of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), which is responsible for bringing warm water from the equator to the North Atlantic.
Changes to Earth’s climate driven by increased human emissions of heat-trapping greenhouse gases are already having widespread effects on the environment: glaciers and ice sheets are shrinking, river and lake ice is breaking up earlier, plant and animal geographic ranges are shifting, and plants and trees are blooming sooner. Climate change are now occurring, such as sea ice loss, accelerated sea level rise, and longer, more intense heat waves. Some changes (such as droughts, wildfires, and extreme rainfall) are happening faster than scientists previously assessed. In fact, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) — the United Nations body established to assess the science related to climate change — modern humans have never before seen the observed changes in our global climate, and some of these changes are irreversible over the next hundreds to thousands of years. Scientists have high confidence that global temperatures will continue to rise for many decades, mainly due to greenhouse gases produced by human activities.
There’s a lot of misinformation out there about climate change and the environment. Here are some facts.

Over the years, the Philippines has seen and experienced the effects of climate change such as the rise in sea levels three times the world average, destruction of naturally rich ecosystems, and forests steadily vanishing. Typhoons, while less in number, have become more destructive.
Climate change is already taking place. It suggests that the change cannot be explained only by natural variation. The most recent scientific assessments have confirmed that the observed warming of the climate system since the mid-20th century is most likely due to human activities, such as the burning of fossil fuels and land use change. Current warming is posing significant difficulties to man and the environment, and will continue to do so in the future. Some autonomous adaptation is currently going place, but in order to maintain sustainable development, we must consider more proactive preparedness for adaptation.

What is Global Warming? 🌎
Throughout the history of the Earth, climate has naturally changed due to factors such as shifts in its orbit and changes in the atmosphere or surface. However, in the last century, human activity has become a major force in causing the planet's overall temperature to increase, a phenomenon known as global warming.
Global warming refers to the long-term increase in the overall temperature of the Earth, which has been occurring for some time. However, in the last century, the pace of this warming has accelerated due to the burning of fossil fuels, these includes coal, oil, and natural gas, and burning them causes what is known as the “greenhouse effect” in Earth’s atmosphere. Gases produced by the burning of fossil fuels prevent the heat from leaving the atmosphere. The excess heat in the atmosphere has caused the average global temperature to rise overtime, otherwise known as global warming.
NASA has reported that the effects of global warming extend beyond the rise in temperature. It can also cause changes in patterns of rainfall, exacerbate erosion of coastlines, lead to a longer growing season in certain areas, cause melting of glaciers and ice caps, and alter the ranges of certain infectious diseases. Some of these effects have already started to occur.
To combat global warming, action is needed urgently from all of us. The responsibility to make a change lies with each and every one of us. Join forces with the Green Generation to fight against this issue.
