The University of Southeastern Philippines joins the global observance of the International Day of Sign Languages every September 23, recognizing the importance of sign languages in advancing communication, inclusion, and the equal participation of Deaf People in society.
For educational institutions, accessible communication is essential to creating learning environments where Deaf Learners can participate fully and pursue their aspirations. At USeP, Deaf Graduates have excelled in their academic pursuits, including those who have earned Latin honors and gone on to pursue professional careers. Their accomplishments reflect what inclusive and accessible higher education can make possible for Deaf Learners.
These achievements are part of the University's continuing commitment to providing meaningful opportunities for Deaf Learners to participate, excel, and contribute to their communities.
In the Philippines, Republic Act No. 11106, or the Filipino Sign Language Act, recognizes Filipino Sign Language (FSL) as the national sign language and calls on State Universities and Colleges to promote FSL awareness, competency, research, development, and preservation.
On this International Day of Sign Languages, USeP recognizes the achievements of Deaf Learners and the importance of advancing an educational environment that respects linguistic diversity, promotes accessibility, and upholds the rights and participation of every learner.

[READ] BUILDING SUCCESS TOGETHER:

Strengthening the Partnership Between Home and University
Recognizing that student success is built through strong partnerships, the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) – University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) successfully conducted the First-Year and Second-Year BS Accountancy Parents’ Orientation and Consultation Meeting on September 7, 2026.

Anchored on the theme “Building Success Together,” the activity brought together parents, guardians, faculty members, and student leaders to strengthen collaboration and provide families with a deeper understanding of the BS Accountancy program and their vital role in supporting students throughout their academic journey.
The program opened with welcoming remarks from Roj Francis Japson, JPIA Vice President for Academics, who expressed appreciation to the parents and guardians for their presence and continued support.

A meaningful session was facilitated by Ms. Ruchela P. Gamao, RGC, who highlighted the importance of healthy and open communication between parents and their children. She emphasized that while academic achievement matters, it should never be the sole measure of a student’s worth, potential, or future. Her powerful reminder, “Connect before you correct,” underscored the importance of understanding, encouragement, and emotional support in helping students thrive.

The orientation proper was led by Dr. Enrico C. Yee Jr., ASEAN CPA, Program Head of the BS Accountancy Program, who discussed the CPA Licensure Examination (CPALE) syllabi, BSA curriculum and prospectus, assessment methods, retention policies, and the various academic, professional, extension, and student development activities lined up for the academic year.
Dr. Yee emphasized that success in the BS Accountancy program is a shared responsibility among students, parents, faculty members, and the University. Through consistent communication, guidance, and collaboration, students are better equipped to navigate challenges and pursue their academic and professional goals.

The consultation session also provided parents and guardians with an opportunity to raise questions, clarify concerns, and better understand the expectations and support mechanisms of the program. More importantly, it strengthened the partnership between families and the University in promoting both student achievement and well-being.
More than an orientation, the gathering became a meaningful platform for building trust, understanding, and a shared commitment to student success.
The BS Accountancy Program and JPIA at USeP remains committed to nurturing future professionals who embody academic excellence, professional competence, integrity, and holistic development.

[𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗟𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥] As we look forward to the Baccalaureate Services, Recognition Programs, and the Commencement Exercises of the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) on September 8-11, 2026, we kindly ask all participants, guests, and members of the University community to help us ensure a safe, orderly, and environmentally responsible celebration.

1. Say no to single-use plastics. The University implements a policy banning single-use plastics: AgainsT Single-Use Plastics (ATSUP). Single-use plastics or disposable plastics refer to plastic packaging and items intended to be used only once before they are thrown away or recycled. These include, among other things, grocery bags, food packaging, bottles, straws, containers, stirrers, cups, and cutlery. Bringing of those to University events is prohibited.

2. Keep our events smoke-free. Smoking, including the use of ci******es, ci**rs, pipe to***co, and electronic ci******es, is prohibited in USeP campuses and in areas designated as smoke-free. Participants are likewise expected to comply with the smoking and va**ng restrictions of the event location.

3. Observe restrictions on items and attire. Large bags and backpacks, non-transparent water tumblers, bouquets, corsages, leis, and similar items are not allowed for security reasons.

4. Do not bring or consume alcoholic or intoxicating drinks. Bringing and consumption of intoxicating and alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited during University events.

5. Help keep our events safe. Bomb jokes, threats, and similar statements are strictly prohibited. Weapons and dangerous, sharp, or hazardous items are likewise not allowed.

6. Cooperate with security screening. Security procedures may include identification verification, inspection of bags and carried items, metal-detector screening, visual inspection of vehicles, and additional screening when necessary. Screening procedures may vary depending on the location and security requirements.

7. Stay alert and report security concerns. Immediately report suspicious persons, activities, vehicles, or items; attempted or actual unauthorized entry; threats; or other circumstances that may affect campus safety and security to the Security Services Unit, designated event personnel, host security, or the nearest available University personnel. Do not personally investigate, confront, or apprehend anyone involved.

8. Allow extra time for entry. Intensified screening and controlled access may require additional processing time, particularly during peak periods. Please allow sufficient time for entry and follow the directions of authorized security personnel.

Note: For activities held outside USeP campuses, participants are expected to observe these University guidelines, as well as the applicable rules, regulations, and security protocols of the host location

[ADVISORY] Emergency Downtime of the USeP Virtual Environment (UVE)

Please be advised that the UVE will be temporarily unavailable on September 8, 2026, starting at 9:00 AM due to emergency storage maintenance and security updates to be conducted by the Systems and Data Management Division (SDMD).

Services will resume once maintenance activities are fully completed and system stability is verified. Other university systems will remain accessible during this period.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this activity. All faculty members are advised to adjust academic deadlines and provide alternative arrangements or offline activities for affected classes.

[𝓛𝓞𝓞𝓚] USeP proudly welcomes Hon. Leonel “Jhong” D. Ceniza, Representative of the 2nd Congressional District of Davao de Oro and Assistant Majority Floor Leader of the House of Representatives, as the Guest of Honor and Commencement Speaker for the Commencement Exercises of USeP Tagum-Mabini Campus, Mabini Unit on 09 September 2026.

A native of Pantukan, Davao de Oro, Congressman Ceniza began his public service journey as Municipal Mayor, where he championed community healthcare, social welfare, rural infrastructure, and sustainable development. Today, he brings this grassroots perspective to the national legislature, advocating for initiatives that advance the welfare and development of communities across Davao de Oro.

His leadership aligns closely with the mission of the USeP TMC Mabini Unit, whose long-standing academic and research strengths in agriculture, forestry, environmental management, and technology are closely connected to the development of rural communities.

We look forward to an inspiring commencement message from a leader whose work reflects resilience, grassroots service, and a vision for a stronger and more progressive Davao de Oro.

[𝓛𝓞𝓞𝓚] USeP proudly welcomes home Dr. Maricar R. Casquejo, CESO III, accomplished computer engineer, visionary educator, and Regional Director of the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office XI (CHED RO XI), as the Guest of Honor and Commencement Speaker for the Commencement Exercises of USeP Mintal Campus on 10 September 2026.

A distinguished USeP alumna, Dr. Casquejo earned her Master of Business Administration in 1999 and Doctor of Philosophy in Development Research and Administration in 2004 from the University. She has since built a distinguished career at the intersection of technology, education, research, and public service.

With expertise in knowledge management and information technology, Dr. Casquejo has contributed to the modernization of public service delivery, transforming organizational processes and making frontline services more efficient and responsive.

From a USeP graduate to a leader shaping higher education in the region, her journey offers a powerful message to today’s graduates: the education you gain today can become the foundation for the changes you will lead tomorrow.
