Four student leaders from Basiawan National High SchoolโSupreme Secondary Learner Government (BNHSโSSLG) proudly represented the Sta. Maria East District during NEXUS 2026: Student Leaders Convergence, held on August 22โ23, 2026, at Boy Blueโs Hillside Resort, Bolila, Malita, Davao Occidental.
Representing our school were SSLG President Cedrick V. Responte, Treasurer Sophia Carla R. Fuentes, Auditor Rovejen Torrejas, and Grade 8 Representative Dennis Kaye Hindang.
For us, NEXUS was not simply another activity to attendโit was an experience that challenged us to look beyond our positions and understand what it truly means to lead. Across two days, we were given opportunities to listen, participate, speak, collaborate, and learn alongside fellow student leaders from different parts of Davao Occidental.
From engaging discussions to parliamentary procedure and project pitching, every activity gave us something to take home. Being entrusted with roles such as presiding officers also allowed us to put leadership principles into practiceโto listen carefully, make thoughtful decisions, and guide others while working toward a common goal.
But perhaps the most meaningful part was found outside the formal sessions. The laughter during team activities, conversations over meals, moments during the socials, and the stories shared with one another reminded us that leadership is also about connection and understanding. Sometimes, the strongest lessons come not from a lecture, but from hearing another personโs story and realizing that every leader carries a journey of their own.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who made NEXUS 2026 possible. To the Provincial Youth Development Office of Davao Occidental, Sir Leo M. Manisan, Sir Rhoden V. Villa, JCI Davao Gulf, the speakers, facilitators, organizers, and all those behind this meaningful gatheringโthank you for creating a space where young leaders could learn, connect, and be inspired.
To our fellow student leaders, especially our Sta. Maria East District Family, thank you for the memories, conversations, laughter, and friendships. We may have come from different schools and communities, but for these two days, we shared one space, one experience, and one purpose: to become better leaders for the people we serve.
Our heartfelt appreciation also goes to the LGU of Sta. Maria, under the leadership of Mayor Hon. Claude Benjamin II Bautista, and the LYDO Sta. Maria, headed by Miss Amalia Lin S. Cabangbang, for helping make our participation possible through transportation and continued support for student leadership.
To our Basiawan National High School Family, led by our Principal, Maโam Felipa C. Ceballos, and our BNHSโSSLG Adviser, Sir Primo Aranas, thank you for trusting us and allowing us to represent our school. Your support gives us the confidence to step outside our comfort zones and embrace opportunities that help us grow.
Above all, we thank God for guiding and protecting us throughout this journey. May the lessons we gained, the friendships we formed, and the realizations we discovered become part of how we continue to serve.
Two days may have passed, but the lessons of NEXUS will continue to shape the way we lead.
