🎉 WELCOME TO DBSES, Sir KIRK J. TARAY! 🦇

DBSES warmly welcomes Mr. Kirk J. Taray as our newest faculty member!

Kirk is a cm laude BS Biology graduate, major in Wildlife Biology, from UP Los Baños and is currently finishing his MS in Wildlife Science, minor in Zoology. His research focuses on bat ecology, bioacoustics, wildlife biology, and biodiversity, with several scientific publications and presentations in national and international conferences.

In the department, he will be teaching Zoology, Philippine Wildlife and other basic Biology courses, while contributing to our research and extension initiatives in biodiversity and wildlife conservation.

Welcome to the DBSES family, Kirk! We look forward to working with you!

PUBLICATION ALERT 📣

A new orchid species endemic to Mindanao has been formally described. /Corybas apoensis/, a member of the tribe Acianthinae, is distinguished from its closest relative, /Corybas viridisepalus/, by its white floral background and a densely papillate dorsal sepal. The discovery adds to the growing diversity of Philippine orchids and highlights the importance of continued botanical exploration and documentation in the country's biodiversity-rich landscapes.

The first author, Kier Agad, is a Teaching Assistant and MS Biology student under the WISER BioCon Laboratory of the Department of Biological Sciences and Environmental Studies.

The WISER BioCon Laboratory extends its warmest congratulations to Kier and his co-authors on this remarkable scientific achievement and their valuable contribution to the documentation and conservation of the Philippines' rich botanical diversity.

The WISER BioCon Lab of DBSES proudly congratulates Jay Ryan Erbito on the successful presentation of her research, “Molecular Detection and Subtype Analysis of Blastocystis sp. in Long-Tailed Macaques (Macaca fascicularis) from an Isolated Forest Fragment in Tagum City, Mindanao Island, Philippines,” at the 11th Asian Congress of Tropical Medicine and Parasitology in conjunction with the 96th Annual Conference of the Philippine Society of Parasitology.

This achievement reflects her dedication to advancing parasitological research and contributing valuable insights into wildlife health and disease ecology. We celebrate this milestone and commend her commitment to scientific excellence.
