DAY 1 of Seeds of Change: Orientation and Financial Literacy Session Conducted for Project M.O.S.E.S. Beneficiaries

On May 12, 2026, the Crossian Psychology Society officially commenced the first session of its advocacy initiative “Seeds of Change: Mentorship, Literacy, and Service Beyond Borders” for the beneficiaries of Project M.O.S.E.S. The activity was conducted from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Sr. San Miguel GKK Zone 9, Brgy. Tibungco, Davao City.

The first session, entitled “Orientation and Financial Literacy,” aimed to establish meaningful connections between mentors and mentees while introducing practical and age-appropriate lessons on financial literacy. The activity opened with a rapport-building energizer and welcome song that created a warm and engaging learning environment for the participants.

This was followed by the official introduction of mentors and mentees together with an overview of the project and expectations. Basic financial literacy concepts such as money, saving, and budgeting were also introduced to help learners develop responsible financial habits at an early age.

For the children beneficiaries, volunteers utilized an interactive big book as a teaching tool to guide participants in counting and grouping different kinds of fruits. Through simple market scenarios, the children learned basic concepts of buying and selling, quantity, and value in a fun and participative manner.

Meanwhile, the youth participants were introduced to essential financial literacy concepts focusing on the difference between needs and wants, the importance of saving, and the basics of budgeting using the 50-30-20 budgeting principle.

The successful conduct of the first session reflected the commitment of the Crossian Psychology Society, in partnership with the Social Action Office and Iconhope Foundation, to promote transformative learning experiences that empower children and youth through mentorship, literacy, and life skills education.

Seeds of Change Volunteers Participate in Pre-Implementation Reflection Session for Project M.O.S.E.S.

In preparation for the implementation of the advocacy project “Seeds of Change: Mentorship, Literacy, and Service Beyond Borders,” the student volunteers of the Crossian Psychology Society participated in a Pre-Implementation Reflection Session on May 5, 2026, for the beneficiaries of Project M.O.S.E.S.

The activity served as a formative gathering that allowed the volunteers to reflect on the deeper purpose of mentorship, service, and community engagement prior to the official conduct of the project sessions. Grounded in the mission of Holy Cross of Davao College to promote transformative education and social responsibility, the reflection session emphasized the role of student volunteers as instruments of hope, compassion, and empowerment for children and youth in marginalized communities.

Throughout the session, the volunteers engaged in meaningful discussions and reflective activities centered on empathy, servant leadership, youth formation, and the importance of creating safe and supportive learning spaces for the beneficiaries. The activity also fostered among the volunteers a deeper understanding and appreciation of community engagement and development, recognizing that meaningful social transformation begins through genuine solidarity, active participation, and compassionate service to communities.

The gathering further provided an opportunity for the volunteers to strengthen camaraderie, align their goals as mentors, and deepen their understanding of the realities and challenges faced by the children and youth under Project M.O.S.E.S.

The reflection session prepared the volunteers emotionally, mentally, and spiritually as they take part in the five-session mentorship and literacy initiative scheduled from April to May 2026. Guided by the values of service and solidarity, the volunteers were reminded that beyond teaching literacy skills, the project seeks to inspire confidence, resilience, and hope among the young beneficiaries.

Through initiatives such as Seeds of Change, the Crossian Psychology Society, in partnership with the Social Action Office and Iconhope Foundation, continues to uphold its commitment to community engagement and transformative service—forming not only empowered learners, but also socially responsive student leaders dedicated to making a difference beyond borders.
