BNHS Strengthens Campus Cleanliness with New Three-Wheeled Trash Cans

Biao National High School welcomed a meaningful improvement in its campus environment as the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Davao City, through the assistance of Barangay Escuela, delivered three three-wheeled trash cans last December 5, 2025.

For years, managing daily garbage collection has been one of the schoolโ€™s persistent concerns. With hundreds of students and ongoing activities, the need for a more efficient waste-handling system has become increasingly important. The arrival of the new trash cans brings hope for a cleaner and more organized school ground.

The school community expressed heartfelt appreciation to Barangay Escuela, especially under the leadership of Barangay Captain Lao, whose support played a key role in making the request possible.

โ€œThis may seem simple, but it creates a real impact,โ€ the principal shared. โ€œThese trash cans will help us maintain cleanliness on campus and teach our learners the value of environmental care.โ€

The initiative reflects the shared commitment of the school and the barangay to build a healthier learning environmentโ€”one small step that contributes to a bigger culture of responsibility and sustainability at Biao NHS.

A Bridge of Hope: BNHS Marks National Reading Month Culmination

Biao National High School held its National Reading Month Culmination Program on December 1, 2025, with the theme "Tulay ang Pagbasa sa Bukas na Puno ng Pag-asa." Students and teachers gathered for an afternoon filled with performances, creativity, and the celebration of reading.

Sir Rodrigo J. Cayanong, in his opening remarks, highlighted the importance of reading and how it guides individuals toward growth and success, emphasizing that โ€œAng Pagbasa ang Susi sa Buhay.โ€ His message served as a meaningful reminder of why the school continues to promote a strong reading culture.

One of the most anticipated segments of the event was the Book Character Parade, where students and teachers proudly walked in costumes inspired by their favorite book characters. The colorful outfits brought excitement and fun to the program, showing how much the participants enjoyed preparing for the celebration.

Different grade levels also showcased their talents through vocal duets and spoken word poetry, with each performance reflecting the studentsโ€™ talent and creativity.

The program wrapped up with an Awarding Ceremony, where outstanding performers were recognized. In her closing message, Ma'am Rosalinda F. Escoton expressed her gratitude to all the students and parents who actively participated in and supported the event.

Overall, the culmination program was a simple yet meaningful way for the school community to celebrate reading. Through costumes and performances, the activity reminded everyone that reading truly serves as a bridge toward a hopeful and brighter future

At Biao National High School in Davao City, the lively hum of youthful energy fills classrooms where teenagers race to finish assignments, share stories, and dream of futures. Among them are Alternative Learning System (ALS) learners of all ages and backgrounds united by the shared ambition to reclaim their education, like travelers returning to a road they once had to leave behind.

One of these learners is Ann Ann C. Toress, a 36-year-old mother of four, living as a tenant and caretaker of a lot, while her husband works as a tricycle driver to support their household.

She grew up in a large family of eight siblings, raised by a farmer father and a devoted housewife mother. Her family lived in poverty, and only three of the eight children managed to graduate from high school.

She entered ALS 7 at New Valencia Integrated School as a working student, determined to continue her studies despite hardships. By Grade 8, she returned home to help her parents and support the familyโ€™s needs.

Her journey in ALS came to a halt when, in her ninth grade, she faced early pregnancy โ€” a reality that forced her to prioritize responsibility over her education.

For a time, her dreams of finishing school seemed out of reach. But learning about the chance to re-enroll in ALS reignited her hope.

(I'm glad that there is ALS because it allowed me to continue my studies.)

Through ALS, she believes she can finish high school and secure better work in the future โ€” even reaching college, a dream she once thought she had lost.

Today, she continues her journey as an ALS 11 learner at Biao National High School. She is distinguished not only by her spirited participation and proactive attitude but also by a quiet strength, steady as a mahogany tree, that inspires those around her.

Still, the road has not been free of doubt. Many continue to underestimate her and other ALS learners, using their age, circumstances, or parenthood as reasons to question their place in school.

(I firmly believe that I will achieve my dreams. I am committed to helping others succeed through their dedication and hard work, because age and social status are no barriers to creating a brighter future.)

Beyond her own determination, Ann turns her story into encouragement for others. To those who, like her, had to set aside schooling because of responsibilities or hardships, she urges them to see ALS as a chance to rise again, to continue again, and to dream again.

For Ann, education is not only about personal progress; it is also about inspiring the next generation to believe in the power of knowledge and persistence.

Her story reflects what ALS truly stands for: a second chance at education and a lifeline for those who once thought it was too late. In the classroom, she is not only a learner but also a beacon โ€” a light that refuses to dim even in the strongest storms.

The ALS is a program of the Department of Education, offering a chance for those who were unable to continue the traditional path to resume their studies โ€” whether at the elementary, junior high, or even senior high school level.

On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, Biao National High School warmly welcomed parents, teachers, and students for the 1st SPTA General Assembly. The event aimed to prepare for School Year 2025โ€“2026, discuss important school matters, elect new PTA officers, and provide a platform for parents to voice their ideas and concerns for the betterment of the school.

The program began with registration, assisted by SSLG officers and faculty members. This ensured that all attendees were properly recorded and helped determine whether the meeting had reached a quorum.

The assembly officially opened with a meaningful message from PTA President Mr. Floro Serenio, who shared the accomplishments, current challenges, and future plans of the association. His message emphasized the vital role of parental involvement in education. Afterward, PTA Secretary Ms. Rhea Camilo confirmed that the meeting had reached a quorum.

To acknowledge early participation, the school presented the โ€œW.A.T.C.H. Awardโ€ to the first five parents who arrived at the venueโ€”highlighting their dedication to the school community.

Ms. Camilo then read the minutes of the previous assembly, summarizing key discussions and decisions made during the last meeting.

Next, PTA Treasurer Mrs. Kathleen Grace C. Tolosa presented a detailed financial report covering the entire school year. The report was clearly explained and well-received by the parents, who approved it after review.

Mr. Serenio returned to the stage to discuss important matters with the parents, such as student behavior, school facilities, and the evolving needs of the learners.

A significant highlight of the assembly was the official turnover ceremony for the newly elected PTA officers. Leadership was formally passed to Mrs. Kathleen Grace C. Tolosa, who was elected as the new PTA President, along with her fellow officers. In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Tolosa vowed to fulfill her duties with dedication and emphasized her commitment to supporting the school and its students, fully aware of the great responsibilities that lie ahead.

The most anticipated segment followedโ€”the Open Forum. Parents actively participated by raising questions, offering suggestions, and discussing key school concerns. One notable proposal was the creation of a PE uniform to be worn every Wednesday, which received strong support from the parent body.

To formally conclude the event, Mrs. Tolosa delivered her closing remarks, encouraging all parents to unite and work collaboratively for the continued progress and success of Biao National High School.

The 1st SPTA General Assembly was a resounding success. It demonstrated how cooperation between parents and teachers can create a brighter future for all Biaonian students.
