Tracking Resistance, Protecting Lives: A Seminar on the Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Program
Last March 6, 2026, at SHL 413, the BS in Medical Laboratory Science โ College of Health Sciences successfully conducted a meaningful seminar focused on the importance of antimicrobial resistance surveillance in modern healthcare.
The seminar gathered BSMLS students to strengthen awareness and understanding of resistance trends among clinically significant microorganisms. The activity emphasized the crucial role of laboratory professionals in identifying emerging resistant strains and supporting effective antimicrobial treatment and infection prevention strategies.
Through this learning experience, participants gained valuable insights into how surveillance programs help healthcare systems respond promptly to resistance patterns that may affect treatment outcomes and patient safety.
Our heartfelt gratitude to our inspiring speaker, Rosemarie G. Balite, Pharmacist III, for sharing her expertise, knowledge, and valuable insights that enriched the learning experience of all participants.
Indeed, the seminar served as another step in preparing future Medical Laboratory Scientists to contribute to public health and responsible antimicrobial stewardship.

Last January 24, 2026, BSMLS 2 students of Lyceum of the Philippines-Davao brought their lessons to life through their Cookfest Practical Examination for the Community and Public Health course. Guided by the theme "Baryo Fiesta: Boodle Fight for a Filipino Family," the activity challenged students to plan, prepare, and present a nutritious Filipino meal for a family of ten within a โฑ 1,000 budget.
Through teamwork and creativity, the students demonstrated their understanding of nutrition, budgeting, and community health. The cookfest became more than just a cooking activity, with students having a meaningful learning experience that highlights the value of collaboration, cultural appreciation, and shared responsibility in promoting public health.

RECAP: Yesterday, our first-year BSMLS students stepped out of the classroom and into the heart of healthcare operations at Lanang Premier Hospital. This immersive tour provided a firsthand look at Hospital Information Management Systems (HIMS) in action, bridging the gap between our textbooks and the high-stakes reality of clinical data management.
A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated Health Information Systems (HIS) instructor, Maโam Katherine Laurente, for guiding us through this experience and showing us that behind every successful diagnosis is a system built on accuracy and integrity. Here is a glimpse into our journey from the lecture hall to the hospital halls. ๐ฉบ๐ป

Capturing the spirit of a final goodbye to the undergraduate chapters. The road to those three letters is paved with discipline, and today, we celebrated the heart behind the lab coat.
Weโve spent years mastering the science, the spiritโthe grit, the coffee-fueled marathons, and the cramming.
One last horizon to cross. See you at the finish line, future RMTs!
