🍌 WHEN LIFE GAVE FILIPINOS BANANAS, THEY MADE KETCHUP. 🇵🇭

For this History Month, we are taking a closer look at Filipino food and the stories behind the dishes and ingredients that have become part of our everyday lives.

Banana ketchup is one of the most familiar products in Filipino cuisine. Its history is often connected to Maria Y. Orosa, a Filipino food scientist known for developing food products using local ingredients. During World War II, when tomatoes were hard to find, bananas were used as an alternative, eventually leading to the sweet and tangy condiment we know today.

Made with banana puree, vinegar, sugar, and spices, banana ketchup became a familiar part of Filipino meals and later found its way to Filipino communities around the world.

Its story is often remembered as one of Filipino creativity and resourcefulness, but there are also lesser-known stories about the workers and labor issues connected to its production.

This History Month, let us look beyond what is on the table and discover the history behind the food we grew up with. 🇵🇭🍌

HOW WAS YOUR FIRST WEEK, GA?

First week back and… what an emotional rollercoaster.
From being excited to see everyone again, catching up with friends, and enjoying the first-day vibes, to suddenly questioning “Why is there already so much to do?” 😭📚

We went from 😆 → 🥹 → 😮 → 😭 → 😡 real quick. One minute we’re having fun, the next we’re already looking at our schedules like “Is this really my life now?” 🫩

But despite all the stress, tiredness, and “academic break please” moments, it was still nice to be back and make new memories with our fellow ND students 🫶🏻
One week down, and we’re still alive! 😭✋Remember Ga, let’s just take it one day, one class, and one breakdown at a time.🍏

Here’s to more memories, more learning, more laughs, and hopefully… more tulog. 🥹💚
Welcome back, NDs! We got this! 🥗📚✨

A 24-hour food recall isn't just about asking “Ano kinain mo?” 👀

It’s about remembering the little things too—coffee, snacks, drinks, desserts, and even that “tikim lang.”
Because sometimes, “konti lang” has a whole menu behind it. 🤣
