ICYMI. The BA English (Creative Writing) Program Coordinator Asst. Prof. Farah Aimee Virador and Mr. Liane Suelan visited the Literary and Cultural Studies Program of Ateneo de Manila University on October 28 and 30, 2025.

The visit aimed to learn from Ateneo’s best practices and explore exciting possibilities for collaboration in teaching, research, and creative production.

The UP Mindanao team was warmly welcomed by Dr. Charlie S. Veric, Director of the Literary and Cultural Studies Program, together with faculty members Prof. Luisa Gomez, Prof. Francis Sollano, and Prof. Mayel Martin.

The Department of Humanities proudly shares that UP Mindanao received a Certificate of Recognition from the Philippine Association of Communication Educators (PACE) during its 50th Anniversary Celebration on October 25, 2025, at UP Los Baños. The award was presented by Prof. Karen Joyce G. Cayamanda, PACE Trustee and faculty member of the Department, to Chancellor Lyre Anni E. Murao, witnessed by CHSS Dean Jhoanna Lynn B. Cruz, during the October 27 Flag Ceremony. This recognition honors UP Mindanao’s steadfast partnership and active contribution to advancing communication and media education nationwide.

On November 3, 2025, the Department of Humanities, led by Chair Assoc. Prof. Dennis John Sumaylo, along with BAHASA lecturer Ms. Therese Maria Abigail V. Ledesma and Mx. Ruben Tabalina from the UPMin Office of International Linkages, visited the Indonesian Consulate General in Davao City. The visit aimed to establish a partnership with the Consulate to collaborate on upcoming cultural activities for the second semester of AY 2025-2026. These events will be organized by UP Mindanao's Bahasa Indonesia classes in partnership with the UPMin Office of International Linkages, fostering cultural ties and understanding.

The UP Mindanao Department of Humanities, represented by its Chair, Associate Professor Dennis John F. Sumaylo, PhD and PTV, through Vina Araneta-Pilapil, Admin and News Head of PTV Mindanao, are in ongoing discussions to bring academic and creative works closer to the public through a new program, Straight Shot, launched in September 2025.

The initiative will feature student theses, internship outputs, and immersion experiences, giving nationwide audiences a glimpse of the creativity, research, and community engagement of UP Mindanao students and faculty. A studio tour also formed part of the collaboration activities, paving the way for fresh opportunities in media-academic partnerships.

In addition, the Department also plans to extend this partnership with Radyo Pilipinas – Radyo Publiko, further expanding its reach and strengthening the platform for showcasing student and faculty research and outputs to a wider national audience.
