HISTORY OF PIEDAD CENTRAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

A prominent landowner and one of the known inhabitants of Crossing Bayabas, CARLOS CERDIÑA was the owner and donor of the site of Piedad Central Elementary School, Piedad District.

In the year 1958, Crossing Bayabas was a newly organized Barangay. Many immigrants came to this Barangay because it is just near to the Poblacion. The Toril Public Market is within the Barangay of Crossing Bayabas that’s why many people engaged in commerce and business settled here.

At the beginning Barangay Crossing Bayabas had no school yet. Children of all ages had to go to Daliaon Central and in the nearby schools like San Miguel located in Barangay Lubogan and Gasco of Barangay Bato and some who can afford enrolled in Saint Peter’s College of Toril. Parents of Crossing Bayabas came into a realization and felt the need of opening an elementary school for their children to enroll. So, in the year 1958, concerned parents of Crossing Bayabas began to comply with the necessary requirements for the acquisition of the school site and were submitted to the concerned offices and authorities. In the same year the application for opening a school was approved and so, the school was opened.

The school was named Piedad Elementary School because the site was situated in Lower Piedad. In 1960’s, population of the school rapidly increased that made Piedad a complete Elementary School. More teachers were employed to meet the yearly increase of enrollment.

The School is now named Piedad Central Elementary School under Piedad District with an area of 29, 540 sq. m. school site. It is considered the oldest elementary school in barangay Crossing Bayabas, Toril, Davao City. With the rapid increase of enrollment and the need to established high school education, the school shares its site with Piedad Barangay High School (Crossing Bayabas National High school) and the establishment of Artemio Loyola Elementary School. Piedad Central Elementary School is now allocated with more or less 6,000 square meters.

As of 2021, PCES has a population of more or less 2,600 learners, 81 teachers and 2 non-teaching personnel, led by Marites C. Mobes, Principal III. A newly constructed 60-classroom, 4–storey building has been built to suit the needs of learners. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic covid-19, this building has not yet been enjoyed by the learners.
