Faculty members from the University of the Philippines Mindanao offered interdisciplinary reflections on the evolving directions of Mindanao Studies. Representing the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, architecture, management, food science, human kinetics, and applied mathematics, the roundtable surfaced key concerns across fields.
The discussion emphasized narrative and meaning-making, embodied and indigenous knowledge, humanโenvironment systems, food as cultural archive, data and AI, context-sensitive design, and ethical, community-centered developmentโaffirming that no single discipline is sufficient in understanding Mindanao. Interdisciplinarity, collaboration, and grounded research remain central to shaping a responsive and future-oriented Mindanao Studies agenda.

The afternoon plenary sessions featured Assoc. Prof. Marie Danielle V. Guillen, Prof. Henry C. Daut, Dr. Leee Anthony M. Neri, and Prof. Rufa C. Guiam, who each brought distinct yet interconnected perspectives on Mindanao.
Through discussions on mobility, cultural heritage, archaeology, peacebuilding, and research futures, the plenaries highlighted how lived experiences, landscapes, memory, and ethical engagement shape both present realities and long-term directions for Mindanao studies.
Together, their insights reinforced Pag-abollโs commitment to grounded, interdisciplinary, and community-centered conversations about Mindanaoโs past, present, and future.
Stay tuned for more highlights during Pag-aboll 2025! ๐

On November 22, 2025, participants joined the study tour segment of Pag-aboll 2025 at the Philippine Eagle Foundation Center and enjoyed Pasalubong Shopping.
They had the opportunity to connect with fellow attendees and learn more about Mindanao, home to some of the archipelagoโs most iconic Philippine Eagles.
After the visit to the Philippine Eagle Foundation, the group made a quick stop at UP Mindanao before heading to Poblacion Market Central to select pasalubongs (souvenirs) to share their experiences and provide others with a glimpse of Mindanao.
Through collaboration, we can create impactful research, and we are here to kickstart this endeavor! ๐งโ

The Mindanao Studies Center (MSC) officially kicked off Pag-aboll 2025: International Conference on Mindanao Studies on 20 November 2025.
Inspired by terms such as aboll, abel, ewel, and avoo, each referring to the art of weaving, Pag-aboll explores the interconnected threads that shape Mindanao. The conference focused on how these threads, woven through movement, memory, collaboration, and storytelling, continue to define the region across generations.
The day featured a series of insightful keynote and plenary sessions. Speakers shared valuable perspectives, and participants demonstrated high engagement, contributing to an enriching exchange of ideas.
Rooted in the theme "Mindanao as Gateway: Networks, Dynamics, and Durations," the conference provided a platform for collective action and offered a deeper understanding of Mindanao studies through an ongoing conversation about the region, from its historical roots to the present day.
