PRESS RELEASE | Global health experts to tackle AI, climate, and disease surveillance at ICIAH 2026, hosted by UPMin’s DiWA Center

The University of the Philippines Mindanao's Mindanao Center for Disease Watch and Analytics (DiWA Center), in partnership with the Office of Research, will host the International Conference for Interdisciplinary Approaches to Health (ICIAH) 2026 on 8–9 September 2026 via Zoom.

With the theme "The NOW and the NEXT for Health: Navigating a World in FLUX (Fast, Localized, Uncharted, and eXperimental)," the conference will bring together global experts to explore interdisciplinary solutions in artificial intelligence, disease surveillance, nowcasting, and climate resilience.

Convenor Prof. May Anne E. Mata emphasized the need for cross-disciplinary collaboration and an online format to ensure greater accessibility for researchers and practitioners worldwide, particularly those from low- and middle-income countries.

These student entries were produced under the DOST-PCAARRD-funded project entitled "Fostering Integrated Sustainable Habitats for Ecosystem Security in Davao Gulf, Mindanao, Southern Philippines, a uGREAT Project (FISHES Mindanao)," reflecting how the project continues to open opportunities for student research and mentorship in the field.

The Office of Research commends these researchers, faculty members, and students for their dedication and excellence in advancing research, development, and extension work in agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources across the Southern Mindanao region. Their achievements reflect UP Mindanao's continuing commitment to producing impactful, community-oriented research and to nurturing the next generation of scientists and scholars in the field.

The UPMin GAD Laboratory in the AANR Sector is building a multi-regional network to advance gender-responsive research, data management, capacity-building, policy development, and innovation—particularly in the cacao, coffee, and native pig value chains.

With 6 signed partnership agreements, 16 agreements in progress, and 63 institutional engagements, our growing network shows the value of institutions working together and sharing data, knowledge, expertise, and resources.

We invite state universities and colleges, government agencies, local government units, research institutions, civil society organizations, industry groups, and farming communities to partner with us in transforming gender evidence into more inclusive policies, programs, and solutions.
