Bridging Cultures Through Teaching: SEA Teacher Project Culmination

On March 27, 2026 the spirit of unity and cultural exchange filled the university’s AVR4 as the SEA Teacher Project culminated in a vibrant celebration of shared experiences between the University of Mindanao and Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University.

The SEA Teacher Project, a cultural student exchange initiative, allowed Thai student teachers to immerse themselves in the Philippine school setting. During the culmination program, the audience witnessed not just a closing ceremony, but a meaningful reflection of growth, collaboration, and cultural appreciation. The program opened with a formal awarding ceremony that recognized the invaluable contributions of coordinating teachers, the school principal, student buddies, and the SEA teachers themselves.

The celebration quickly transformed into a showcase of talent and cultural expression as John Rey Mancenido, a BSED Science student teacher from the University of Mindanao, captivated the audience performed his original song “Lupad.” His performance features a beautifully blended Visayan and Thai lyrics, creating a musical bridge that transcended language and cultures.

Energy surged through the venue as selected BPED students took the stage. They delivered an electrifying dance performance that fused contemporary movement with traditional cultural elements. Their synchronized steps and vibrant expressions reflected the dynamic spirit of youth and the richness of cultural diversity.

Just when the audience thought the program had reached its peak, the SEA teachers themselves took the spotlight. They surprised everyone with a heartfelt rendition of “Pano” by Zack Tabudlo. The crowd responded with awe and admiration, recognizing the dedication it took to embrace a new culture so fully. And as the event drew to a close, College of Teacher Education Dean Jocelyn Bacasmot delivered her closing remarks.

The SEA Teachers Culmination did more than conclude a program—it celebrated a journey of discovery, friendship, and mutual respect. It stood as a powerful testament to how education can unite people from different cultures, shaping future educators who are not only knowledgeable but also globally aware and culturally responsive.
