To ensure the continuous delivery of high-quality global education, the Division of Davao City conducted a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of schools implementing the Special Program in Foreign Language (SPFL).
Spearheaded by May Ann M. Jumuad, Education Program Supervisor in English, the division-wide initiative aimed to assess, fine-tune, and strengthen the implementation of foreign language tracks across various public secondary schools in the city.
The evaluation primarily focused on ensuring that school leaders consistently conduct clinical supervision and verify that K-12-aligned Learning Competencies, updated Lesson Plans, and Daily Lesson Logs are strictly utilized, while also verifying that student assessment records are regularly monitored and that periodic feedback is provided to students and parents.
"Our SPFL educators are the bridges connecting our students to the global stage. Beyond the lesson plans and regular assessments, it is your passion and resilience that keep this program vibrant and alive,โ Jumuad said
She also shared that the Division is fully committed to supporting teachers as they nurture globally competitive and multi-lingual Davaoeรฑo youth.
The true highlight of the evaluation moved beyond compliance and paperwork. In a dedicated forum, Jumuad took the time to listen intently to the personal and professional concerns of the SPFL teachers.
"Hearing Dr. Jumuad acknowledge our hard work and listen to our classroom realities gives us a renewed sense of purpose. Teaching a foreign language demands creative dedication, and knowing that our leaders are walking with us inspires us to keep making the language arts come alive for our students,โ May Melanie A. Bahian, a teacher for SPFL-Chinese Mandarin, shared.
Through this evaluation and engagement, the Division of Davao City strengthens its academic foundations and renews educators' passion to connect Davaoeรฑo learners to the global community.

To foster human resources in Japan and ASEAN countries, two premier Araling Panlipunan teachers from Davao City successfully raised the banner of Philippine education by participating in the prestigious 2026 ASEAN-Japan Exchange Program for Secondary Educators, held in Tokyo and Nagoya, Japan, from June 14 to 21.
Alberto C. Cutamora of Mintal Comprehensive High School and Giselle D. Sumalinog of Doรฑa Carmen Denia National High School joined educators from across the Southeast Asian region in a week-long intensive program aimed at promoting bilateral exchange activities and developing human resources capable of addressing global challenges through the lens of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The collaborative slate featured immersive school visits, theme-related lectures, direct cultural experiences, and hands-on observations focused on localized SDG solutions.
"Stepping into Japan's educational landscape opened my eyes to how culture and innovation can co-exist to build a sustainable future. This exchange wasn't just about learning their methods; it was about understanding how we, as ASEAN educators, can mold students who think globally but act locally to solve pressing social issues,โ Cutamora emphasized.
Meanwhile, Sumalinog focused on the immediate application of her international exposure, looking forward to contextualizing her takeaways to enrich her classes back home in Davao City.
โThe true success of this program lies in how I can translate these insights into concrete lessons for my students. By integrating Japanโs best practices in SDG awareness into our Araling Panlipunan curriculum, I can better inspire my students to become proactive, socially aware citizens who contribute to real-world solutions,โ she stated.
Armed with renewed global perspectives and firsthand international insights, both Cutamora and Sumalinog return to their respective stations ready to breathe new life into localized social studies education, proving that Dabawenyo public school teachers are truly at the forefront of molding globally competitive learners.
