In the remote sitio of Indawhong/Licoson in Barangay Salaysay, Marilog District, Davao City, three young learners quietly begin each school day with courage and determination.

The Sumalinog siblings Ramjean, a grade 3, Rendhel, grade 2, and Rhea Mae, a Kindergarten learner, wake up as early five o’clock in the morning to prepare for their journey to Balah Licosan Elementary School. “We wake up early so we won't be late in school, " Ramjean shared. “Even if it's hard, we want to learn."

Their daily walk to school takes one and a half hour passing through the 5-kilometer rough, rocky and challenging spiraling terrain. Under the heat of the sun and the pouring rain, the siblings press on, driven by their shared desire to learn. “Sometimes our feet hurt, but we keep going,” Rendhel said softly. “We don’t want to miss our classes.” For them, the road to education is not easy, but it is one they choose to take every day.

Despite the physical demands of their journey, the siblings are known in school as polite, hardworking, and capable learners. The hardship they endure rarely shows on their faces. However, there are days when exhaustion becomes unavoidable especially for Rhea Mae, the youngest, who sometimes misses class or falls asleep during lessons due to fatigue. Their teachers, fully aware of their situation, continue to show patience, understanding and support.

For Ramjean, the eldest, every step toward school is a step closer to a better future. He believes that no matter how difficult the journey may be, perseverance and education will one day lead them to finish their studies and achieve their dreams.

Fueled by the small earnings he made selling vegetables, young Scout Bernie E. Balacayo was able to join both the Council Scout Jamboree and Venture Camp 2025 and the District-Wide Camporal, Kabberal and Kidsayahan—a shining example of how humble beginnings, when met with courage and determination, can lead to extraordinary adventures.

“If my father were still alive, life wouldn’t be this hard for us now,” Bernie, a grade six learner of Balah Licosan Elementary School, Marilog District, said in the vernacular, his voice carrying both grief and hope. "Being a Scout taught me that even when life is tough, we keep moving forward-brave, strong, and never giving up," he added.

With little money from selling vegetables, Bernie almost missed out, but his school’s support made it possible. At the jamboree, he learned that even in hard times, kindness and courage can open doors.

Bernie’s dedication and sense of responsibility as a Scout have earned him the admiration and respect of all his fellow Scouts.

The Council Scout Jamboree and Venture Camp 2025 took place on October 25-29 at Camp Malagos, Baguio District, Davao City, while the District-Wide Camporal, Kaberral and Kidsayahan 2025 were held on November 21-23 at Marilog Central Elementary School

Marilog Central District • November 21–23, 2025

In a gathering filled with pride, excitement, and the true spirit of scouting, the Balah Licosan Elementary School (BLES) Boy Scouts—from the Kid, Kab, and Troop sections—proudly represented their school during the Marilog Central District’s BSP District-Wide Camporal, Kabberal, and Kidsayahan 2025, held at Marilog Central Elementary School, Marilog Proper, Davao City.

Under the warm sun and the vibrant atmosphere of the scouting world, our young BLES scouts showed not only their skills—but their courage, teamwork, discipline, and genuine joy in learning.

⚡Kid & Kab Scouts: One Day, Big Wins!

For the Kid and Kab Scouts, their one-day event was packed with activities that challenged their creativity, agility, and young leadership. Their smiles lit up the field as they ran, built, crafted, and cheered each other on.

And their effort paid off—

Our Kid and Kawan Scouts proudly brought home awards from their respective events, proving once again that even the smallest scouts can make the biggest impact.

Their wins reflect not just talent, but the pure heart and enthusiasm that BLES scouts are known for.

🏕️ Troop Section: Three Days of Grit, Growth, and Glory

The Troop section braved a full 3-day camporal—a true test of endurance, survival skills, teamwork, and leadership. From camp-building to trail challenges, from skills competitions to team-based activities, our boys gave their all.

And they didn’t just participate—they excelled.
The BLES Troop Section was officially declared the Overall Champion of the District Camporal 2025!

Their victories across different events showcased not only their growing mastery of scouting skills but also their determination, unity, and discipline—qualities that shine brightest when put to the test.

❤️ Behind Their Success: Unmatched Parent Support

The achievements of our scouts would not have been possible without the unwavering support of their parents. From helping build the troop’s camp to providing what the scouts needed on the field, the parents’ dedication showed how deeply they love and believe in their boys.

Their presence became the strength of the scouts—proof that when family and community join forces, success becomes inevitable.

👨‍🏫 Thank You, BLES Teachers & School Head

The entire BLES community extends heartfelt gratitude to our teachers and to our supportive school head. Your guidance, encouragement, and commitment to the Scouting movement made this participation memorable and successful.

To the whole school community—thank you for cheering, helping, and believing in our young scouts.

🌍 Scouting: Building Skills, Character & Patriotism

The Scouting movement continues to play an essential role in shaping the values of our boys—teaching them responsibility, discipline, resilience, camaraderie, and love for country.

Through activities like this, we are not only forming skilled scouts—we are raising future leaders.
