Bamboo Bootcamp

Naging isang buhay na halimbawa ng makabuluhang tulungan at pagpapanatili ng lupang ninuno ang 𝗛𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗴 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 sa Sitio Puting Bato, Marilog District, Lungsod ng Davao. Sa malikhaing pangunguna ni Ar. Jed De Guzman, ang proyektong natapos noong taong 2023 ang kinilala ngayong taon bilang 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗲 - 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗼𝗿𝘆 dahil sa natatanging modelong nagbibigay-lakas at kasarinlan sa lokal na komunidad.

Itinatag sa loob ng lupang ninuno na kabahagi ang katutubong Tribong Matigsalug, ang Hayag Farm School ay higit pa sa isang karaniwang sentro ng pagsasanay. Layunin nitong buwagin ang siklo ng pagkawala ng katutubong kasanayan at ang tinatawag na "Concrete Dream" o ang pag-iwan sa mga tradisyunal na materyales kapalit ng mga mamahalin at hindi angkop na estraktura. Sa pamamagitan ng isang Regenerative Service Loop, hindi lamang itinuturo sa komunidad ang pagtatanim ng kawayan, kundi pati na rin ang pamamahala at pagmamay-ari sa hinaharap ng kanilang lupa at kabuhayan.

Bawat gusali sa pasilidad ay binuo sa pamamagitan ng Bamboo Bootcamp, isang sama-samang pagtitipon kung saan ang mga katutubo, artisan, at mag-aaral ay nagtutulong-tulong sa pagtatayo at pagtuklas muli sa halaga ng kawayan. Ang kawayan ay ginamit bilang pangunahing wika ng disenyo na napapanatili, may malalim na pagpapahayag, at nakatali sa kultura ng lugar. Ang mga estraktura ay sadyang idinisenyo sa makatao at simpleng antas upang maipakita sa mga mamamayan ang tunay na kakayahan ng kanilang sariling mga kamay.

Ang Hayag Farm School ay hindi lamang isang nakatayong gusali kundi isang patuloy na umuunlad na espasyo ng pagkatuto, paglikha, at pangangalaga. Ipinakita ng proyekto kung paano magiging tahimik na instrumento ng pagbabago ang arkitektura upang maibalik ang kasanayan, tiwala sa sarili, at malalim na ugnayan ng tao sa kanyang lupang tinubuan.

In 2021, Youtuber BecomingFilipino Filipino asked Ar. Jed Michael De Guzman, the lead architect of Hayag Farm School how the community of Matigsalug tribe accepted bamboo education and its initiatives. 🎍

Ever since, we’ve always believed that bamboo education shouldn’t just be about architects or engineers leading from the front—it has to be about empowering local artisans so they can teach and lead it, too.
And after so many years, that vision has become a reality.

On every Bamboo Bootcamp, you will see Hayag Farm School’s local artisans guiding and teaching the participants about their expertise in bamboo.

We actually have our own version of the 👑 throne 👑! 👀 And we hailed Uncle Enteng, one of the Bamboo Knights! 🎍

Made by the furniture team of Bamboo Bootcamp Batch 31 together with Bamboo Artisan Uncle Enteng, designed and guided by Ar. Jed Michael De Guzman .

This was our version of “peacock chair” which later made as the throne by the furniture team with some partner National University of Singapore (NUS).

A great example of “never underestimate the potential of bamboo”. IYKYK 👀

The Reciprocating Tower uses interlocking, mutually supporting beams arranged in a hyperboloid shape—meaning every single pole holds up its neighbor in a self-supporting grid. First inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s sketches and Vladimir Shukhov’s geometry, it’s one of the most efficient, wind-resistant structures in sustainable architecture!
