In this lesson we are going to use adverbs in expressing how actions are
done for effective oral and written communication. Adverbs help explain what
the verb is doing. In this manner we could picture out how something was
done.
This module will guide you on how to use the different kinds of adverbs
in daily conversations and in written outputs as well. You will be able to
appreciate its importance as we go on with the activities of this module.
This time, you will read a short story entitled “Friendly Neighbors” Take
note of the words that modify or describe the verbs, adjectives or adverbs.
Answer the questions that follow.

FRIENDLY NEIGHBORS

Yesterday, Carol and Karen heard that
they have new neighbors. They decided to
visit them shortly. They walked excitedly
to the neighbor’s house while chatting
happily.
They brought with them freshly-baked
cookies as a friendly welcome gift. While Karen carefully rang the bell, Carol
suddenly heard footsteps. They patiently waited outside. When the door
opened, they nervously went inside. Their new neighbors warmly welcomed
them as if they have known them before.
Later on, they felt at ease and shared their experiences enthusiastically.
They definitely got along well with the new neighbors. Indeed, they are friendly
neighbors.

excitedly, happily, carefully, suddenly, patiently, nervously, warmly
and enthusiastically. What do you think are these adverbs called? Let us
read and explore the given information as to how adverbs are classified
according to its kind.

Adverbs modify the verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs in a sentence.
They tell when, how often and in what manner the actions are done.
There are different kinds of adverbs. They are: adverb of manner,
place, time, frequency, degree, adverb of affirmation and negation.

Dark chocolate finds its way into the best ice creams, biscuits and cakes. Although eating chocolate usually comes with a warning that it is fattening, it is also believed by some to have magical and medicinal effects. In fact, cacao trees are sometimes called Theobroma cacao which means “food of the gods.”
Dark chocolate has been found out to be helpful in small quantities. One of its benefits is that it has some of the most important minerals and vitamins that people need. It has antioxidants that help protect the heart. Another important benefit is that the fat content of chocolate does not raise the level of cholesterol in the blood stream. A third benefit is that it helps address respiratory problems. Also, it has been found out to help ease coughs and respiratory concerns. Finally, chocolate increases serotonin levels in the brain. "I've just got to get my merit badge today," thought Jim. He was lost. His compass had broken when it fell out of his hands and hit the rocks. Dad will be disappointed if I don't pass this time. Jim couldn't find the path to take to get back to camp. He saw some boys through the bush- es. They were wearing the same troop number as Jim. "I'll just cut through here and get back to camp. No one will know I didn't take the right way, but what about the rocks?" he thought. He was supposed to return with seven rocks that Mr. Sims had left along the path. "T just bring back any rocks I find," he thought. Jim picked up some rocks that looked a lot like the rocks Mr. Sims had shown them. I'm here! Jim shouted when he arrived. "Here are my rocks." Mr. Sims took the rocks and gave Jim a funny look. "These rocks don't have a green mark painted on them, Jim," he said.

She was harsh and undutiful to him. Lear set out for the castle of Regan. But she also said that fifty knights were too many to wait on him. When Lear saw that they wanted to drive him away. he left them and wandered in misery, but his servant, the Earl of Kent, met him, and made him to lie down in a little hovel. The Earl of Kent hurried to the Court of France to tell Cordelia. At Dover she found poor King Lear, wandering about the fields. They brought him back and fed and clothed him, and Cordelia came to him. now Lear knew at last which of his children it was that had loved him best, and who was worthy of his love.

Then the tailor put his hand in his pocket and took out the cheese and squeezed it, so that it ran out of it. "Well," said the giant, then he took up a stone and threw it so high that it was out of sight. "Well thrown," said the tailor; so he took out the bird, and threw it into the air. Then they went on, and came to a cherry-tree, the giant took hold of the topmost branches, where the ripest fruit hung, and pulling them downwards, gave them to the tailor to hold. But the tailor was weak to hold the tree, and as the giant let go, the tree sprang back, and the tailor was caught up into the air. And he dropped down without any damage, so that once more the little tailor got the better of him. Then the giant said, "As you are a gallant fellow, come with me to our den." The tailor was quite willing, and followed him. When they reached to the den the giant showed him a bed, the bed was big for him so he crept into a corner to sleep. In the midnight the giant took a great staff of iron and beat the bed with one stroke, and supposed he had made an end of a tailor. Early in the morning the giants went into the wood and when they saw the tailor coming after them alive and merry, they were frightened and ran away in all haste.

Money Rain Jen stared mindlessly out of her window. Her parents had grounded her and she couldn't begin to describe how bored she was. Jen sighed as she watched the rain fall and heard the thunder in the distance. The NEWS had forecast the worst storm in the city's history, and it was absolutely bucketing down. As Jen's mind continued to wander, she noticed something strange about the rain. It wasn't rain that was falling, it was money! Jen woke from her daze and fixed her glasses.
