[𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗] Where dreams cross mountains: USeP honors first Malabog Extension Campus graduates
Some milestones are measured not by the number of graduates who march across the stage, but by the generations whose futures change because of them.
The University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) marked a defining chapter in its commitment to accessible and inclusive higher education as the Malabog Extension Campus celebrated its first-ever Commencement Exercises on July 1, 2026. The ceremony formed part of the University's 47th Commencement Exercises, carrying the theme, "Building Dreams. Elevating Excellence. Empowering Communities."

The pioneering graduating class comprised 100 students whose achievements reflect the transformative reach of education. Among them were 79 first-generation college graduates, each becoming the first in their respective families to earn a college degree. The ceremony was made even more meaningful by the graduation of 16 students from various Indigenous Peoples communities, highlighting USeP's continuing commitment to bringing quality higher education closer to underserved communities through its partnership with the City Government of Davao.
In his message, University President Dr. Bonifacio G. Gabales, Jr. reminded the graduates and the community that the occasion represented something far greater than the conferral of degrees. "This gathering celebrates more than the completion of academic requirements. It celebrates a vision that many people believed in, worked for, and patiently nurtured through the years," he said.
The inaugural batch included 57 graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship and 43 graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business, programs designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to strengthen local enterprises and promote sustainable community development.
President Gabales emphasized that the success of the pioneering class was made possible through the collective efforts of families, educators, government partners, and the entire community, noting that "it takes a whole community to help a student earn a college degree." He added that “the graduation celebrated 100 graduates. One hundred dreams fulfilled. One hundred families celebrating. One hundred lives opened to new opportunities."
Representing Davao City Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte, Hon. Councilor Al Ryan S. Alejandre, Vice Chairperson Committee on Education, Science and Technology, conveyed the City's congratulations to the pioneering graduates while reaffirming the local government's commitment to making quality higher education more accessible, particularly to geographically isolated communities such as Paquibato. He recognized the shared efforts of parents, faculty members, USeP, and its partners in creating opportunities for the youth through an environment that nurtures learning, values, and excellence. Mayor Duterte encouraged the graduates to continue pursuing their aspirations with confidence and optimism, expressing hope that they would become globally competitive, socially responsible individuals who would inspire others, especially young members of Indigenous Peoples communities, to dream bigger and believe that education has the power to transform lives.
The graduates also received a special recorded message from Vice President of the Republic of the Philippines Hon. Sara Z. Duterte, who extended her congratulations and encouraged the new graduates as they begin the next chapter of their lives.
Academic excellence likewise shone throughout the ceremony as eight graduates earned Latin honors. Seven Cum Laude distinctions were awarded to graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship, while one graduate from the Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business also received the distinction.
Beyond scholastic achievement, USeP recognized students whose contributions enriched campus life through non-academic awards for leadership, service, athletics, and the arts, celebrating individuals who exemplified excellence both inside and outside the classroom.
Speaking on behalf of the pioneering class, Ms. Jendie Rose B. Cuizon reflected on the shared journey of the graduates and the opportunities made possible through education. The ceremony also featured the Panunumpa ng Katapatan sa Inang Pamantasan, led by Malabog Student Council Internal Vice President Mr. Reden R. Panla-an, reaffirming the graduates' enduring connection to their alma mater.
As the graduates officially joined the growing community of USeP alumni, they were inducted into the Federation of USeP Alumni Associations Inc. by its President and Alumni Regent, Hon. Julius P. Borbon. The commencement concluded with the singing of the USeP Hymn, a fitting finale to a ceremony that celebrated not only academic accomplishment but also the fulfillment of a vision that education should reach every learner, regardless of geography or circumstance.

The University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) proudly announces the First Malabog Extension Campus (MEC) Commencement Exercises, set on July 1, 2026, at USeP MEC, Brgy. Malabog, Paquibato District, Davao City. The ceremony will be livestreamed through the USeP Official page.

From its 2022 founding as a beacon of peace in Paquibato District, USeP MEC proudly honors its first cohort of graduates. Embodying the 47th Commencement theme, “Building Dreams. Elevating Excellence. Empowering Communities.”, these resilient scholars exemplify how inclusive, culturally sensitive higher education empowers the youth to become self-reliant leaders and catalysts for socio-economic growth.

Hon. Sebastian “Baste” Z. Duterte, Mayor of the City Government of Davao, will deliver the commencement address to the pioneering graduates, inspiring them to lead with resilience and become catalysts for sustainable peace and development in their respective communities.

This triumph is a shared victory. The University extends its profound gratitude to the institutional partners whose commitment and invaluable support have been instrumental in making this aspiration a reality: the City Government of Davao; the Commission on Higher Education - Regional Office (CHED-RO) XI; the Department of Education (DepEd) RO XI; the Barangay Officials of Malabog and Paquibato; teaching and non-teaching staff of Paquibato National High School (PNHS) and Malabog Central Elementary School (MCES); PEACE 911 of Davao City; the Department of Science and Technology - Davao Region (DOST XI); the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP); the Ata Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICCs); and other members of the ICC.

[𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦!] USeP advances in 2026 THE Sustainability Impact Ratings, improves performance across key SDGs

The University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) strengthened its global sustainability standing after earning an improved overall placement in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Ratings, formerly known as the THE Impact Rankings. The results reflect the University's continuing efforts to align its academic, research, extension, innovation, and governance initiatives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In the 2026 edition, USeP secured an overall ranking of 1001–1500, an improvement from its 1501+ placement in the 2025 THE Impact Rankings. The advancement places the University among institutions worldwide recognized for their measurable contributions to sustainable development.

Among USeP's most notable gains were improvements in four of the five Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) submitted for evaluation. The University advanced in SDG 4 (Quality Education) from the 1001–1500 band to 801–1000, SDG 5 (Gender Equality) from 801–1000 to 601–800, SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) from 1001+ to 801–1000, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) from 801–1000 to 601–800.

Meanwhile, SDG 1 (No Poverty) remained USeP's strongest-performing SDG, retaining its 401–600 ranking band for two consecutive years. The sustained performance underscores the University's continuing commitment to community development and initiatives that contribute to poverty reduction and improved quality of life for underserved sectors.

The 2026 results demonstrate USeP's growing impact in advancing sustainable development and affirm the collective efforts of its administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and partners in addressing global challenges through education, research, innovation, and community engagement.

[𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞!] 𝗨𝗦𝗲𝗣 𝗷𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗬 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗦𝗘𝗗
The University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) participated in the CY 2026 Second Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on June 18, 2026, strengthening its culture of preparedness and resilience across campuses.
The activity was spearheaded by the University Disaster Risk Reduction and Management–Emergency Management Team (UDRRM-EMT). It aimed to ensure the safety of everyone during and after a damaging earthquake and to train the USeP community on proper actions and responses during an earthquake.
At the Obrero Campus, USeP President and Responsible Officer Dr. Bonifacio G. Gabales, Jr. addressed the participants and emphasized the importance of regular earthquake drills. He emphasized the need for vigilance and preparedness, especially in light of the recent earthquakes that have affected Mindanao, including the Davao Region.

Their enduring legacy reminds us that the liberties we enjoy today were won through generations of resilience, patriotism, and collective action.
The University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) joins the Filipino people in celebrating this historic occasion and honoring the values of freedom, unity, and nationhood that continue to shape our collective future.
As a public institution of higher learning, USeP remains committed to nurturing informed citizens, advancing knowledge, and empowering communities through accessible and transformative education. Through teaching, research, innovation, and public service, the University contributes to the ongoing work of nation-building and the pursuit of a more just, inclusive, and progressive society.
