Join us at the 𝐔𝐏𝐌𝐢𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 on 26 February 2026! This event highlights the research and creative works of our In-House Research and Creative Work Grantees from 2019 to 2024.

The UP Mindanao Research Colloquium, organized by the Office of Research, is an annual event where grantees of the In-House Research and Creative Work Grants present their studies to diverse audiences. This initiative disseminates important research findings to the public.

This event is face-to-face and open to the public. However, due to the limited seating capacity of the venue, we encourage interested participants to register online.

With profound sorrow and deep gratitude, we honor the life and service of our retired Department of Human Kinetics faculty member, Asst. Prof. Erwin Protacio.

A former Director of the Office of Extension and Community Service and Department Chair, he led with quiet strength and humility, guiding generations of students and athletes and contributing significantly to the realization of the DC-UP Sports Complex.

His legacy of principled leadership, dedication to excellence, and faithful public service will continue to inspire the UP Mindanao community.

We extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. May he rest in peace.

Research Assistant (Part Time)

This research is a PhD project of Janus Ruel Cabazares at the Department of Linguistics, University of Canterbury, New Zealand.
It is a Sociophonetic study of speech sound variation in Cebuano as spoken in Central Visayas. Both aspects of how a sound is produced (production) and how it is perceived (social perception) are the focus of the study. A Matched-Guise Technique (MGT) will be conducted to measure how Cebuano listeners judge the social meaning of variation and compare their ratings to their own speech patterns.

Qualifications:
-Currently lives in Central Visayas
-At least college-level in a social science discipline
(e.g. Linguistics, Communication, Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology or related fields)
-Experience in fieldwork or research (not required)
-Good command of Cebuano and English
-Ability to work independently

Location: Central Visayas (Cebu, Bohol, or Negros Oriental)
Start date: Between February and March 2026 (flexible, to be confirmed)
Work arrangement: Primarily remote/online, with in-person engagement as needed on a case-by-case basis
Length: 4 to 6 months (part – time)
