Matina Biao National High School joins the National Women's Month celebration.

Celebrating National Womenโ€™s Month is a way of showing gratitude for their resiliency. They shape and strengthen society as they nurture and hone the community.

Women carry many things, both seen and unseen. They provide strength to hold everything together, allowing families and communities to stand tall and flourish.

As we celebrate them, together, we promote equality and empowerment for future generations, where voices are heard and efforts are seen.
Favorably deserves recognition not just this month, but every day.

Matina Biao National High School recently held its investiture ceremony, officially welcoming 23 new Boy Scouts into the organization. The event highlighted the studentsโ€™ formal commitment to the core values of scouting, emphasizing leadership, service, and character development.

Dressed in uniforms, the scouts pledged to uphold the Scout Oath and Law before teachers, parents, and school leaders.

The event was honored by scout officials Sir Jim Alberca, Wood Badge Holder from Porferio Antipala NHS, and Sir Galileo Antonio Jr., Wood Badge Holder from Ula National High School. Representing the school were Boy Scouts advisor Chiara Bless A. Tarle and Sir Alvin P. Aquitania, OIC, standing in for the principal.

In his message, Sir Alvin warmly welcomed everyone and highlighted scouting as a partner of the Department of Education. He said, โ€œWe formally accept new members with the promise to nurture peace, skills, citizenship, and character, raising future leaders of society.โ€

The ceremony was led by the Boy Scouts Coordinator with teachers serving as mentors, emphasizing character formation beyond academics. This ensured the programโ€™s continued success and integrity within the school community.

A significant moment was the presentation of neckerchiefs and badges, symbols of membership in a global scouting brotherhood. Advisor Chiara explained, โ€œThe neckerchief represents identity and practical use, while the carabao head slide symbolizes hard work, humility, perseverance, and strength.โ€

The carabao, as described, embodies kindness, patience, and selfless serviceโ€”qualities highly valued in Filipino culture and essential to the scouting spirit. These symbols reinforce the values that the new scouts commit to uphold through their journey.

Twenty-three new scouts took their oath, embracing their dedication to leadership and service. Emerging leaders were also recognized for their readiness to guide their peers, reflecting the movementโ€™s emphasis on responsibility and initiative.

Held on campus, the ceremony connected academic life with values-driven extracurricular activities, allowing families to witness a defining moment in their childrenโ€™s growth. Beyond a single day, the investiture reaffirmed the schoolโ€™s mission to nurture well-rounded, responsible individuals ready to serve society.

Aimed at strengthening the school communityโ€™s commitment to a cleaner and greener environment, Matina Biao National High Schoolโ€™s Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) continues to make remarkable strides in promoting environmental awareness and sustainability through meaningful initiatives.

Recently, the organization spearheaded a Clean-Up Drive and Tree Planting Activity, encouraging students, teachers, and volunteers to participate in maintaining the cleanliness of the school and its surroundings.

โ€œOur organization may still be young, but we believe that consistent small actions create meaningful impact. Itโ€™s inspiring to see our students step up and lead in protecting the environment,โ€ YES-O Adviser, Maโ€™am Crestina Abrantes expressed.

The tree planting activity became a symbol of growth and renewal. Each tree stood as a representation of the studentsโ€™ dedication to nurturing life and preserving nature for future generations.

โ€œPlanting even a single tree feels like planting a piece of hope for the future. Through YES-O, I learned that we can all make a difference if we care enough to act,โ€ student participant, Krisha Tolosa shared.

The organization proves that a cleaner and greener future begins with the youth who choose to take action today.

In celebration of the United Nations and National Indigenous Peoples Month, the community of Matina Biao proudly honors Hon. Norma V. Furog, a proud Bagobo-Klata leader, Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representative (IPMR), and Barangay Kagawad, whose life and service exemplify the theme of this yearโ€™s celebration, โ€œWeaving Culture, Enriching Future: Empowering Indigenous Communities as Bedrock of Sustainable Development.โ€

Serving also as the Chairperson of the Barangay Education Committee, Hon. Furog has dedicated her leadership to bridging the wisdom of her ancestors with the aspirations of todayโ€™s youth.

Her unwavering commitment to education and cultural preservation has strengthened the partnership between the Barangay of Matina Biao and Matina Biao National High School, paving the way for programs that empower Indigenous learners and promote Indigenous Peoples Education (IPEd).

โ€œAng kultura ug edukasyon kinahanglan mag-uban,โ€ Hon. Furog said. โ€œKay kung kaila ta sa atong kaugalingon ug sa atong gigikanan, mas klaro nato makita ang dalan paingon sa kaugmaon.โ€ (Culture and education must work together. When we know who we are and where we come from, we can clearly see the path toward our future.)

Her story reflects the ideals of the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA) of 1997, now celebrating its 28th year, a law that recognizes the rights, dignity, and ancestral heritage of Indigenous cultural communities across the nation.

Hon. Furogโ€™s leadership embodies these principles through her dedication to inclusive governance, cultural advocacy, and empowerment of the Bagobo-Klata people.

โ€œDili lang kini bahin sa pagrepresenta. Kini bahin sa pagpanindugan para sa akong katawhan, sa paggiya sa kabatan-onan, ug sa pagpanalipod sa among kultura,โ€ she shared. (This is not just about representation. It is about standing for my people, guiding the youth, and protecting our culture.)

As the nation observes National Indigenous Peoples Month and the United Nations' observance of unity and sustainability, Hon. Furogโ€™s story stands as a living testament to the power of culture in shaping a just and inclusive future.

โ€œSa among tribu, gitudluan mi nga maghiusa ug maginabuhianay. Sa among kalahi, among makaplagan ang kusog; sa among kultura, among makaplagan ang tumong,โ€ she added. (In our tribe, we are taught to live in harmony and help one another. In our diversity, we find strength; in our culture, we find purpose.)

Indeed, her life and leadership embody the heart of this yearโ€™s celebration: Weaving culture to enrich the future and empowering Indigenous Peoples as a bedrock of sustainable development for the nation.
