Born and raised in Davao City, Orvil Bantayan has considered art to be his most loyal companion since he was little. His affair with watercolor started in 2016 where he found out that the medium is not actually just an elementary medium which he was led to believe. Its unpredictability and difficulty to control made it the hardest medium for him to take on. For Orvil, watercolor is not just a medium. It is his gateway of meeting himself. Art became his life vest when he was battling with anxiety in 2019, and he hopes that his solace and trust in the beauty and meaning of life is coveted in every stroke if his artwork.

International Day of World’s Indigenous People.

This is an appreciation post of some of the works of Talaandig indigenous tribe of Bukidnon, Salima Saway (which means to take care of the tribe).

Salima is one of the best and most known soil painter in the Philippines next to “Waway” Linsahay Saway, the recognized father of Talaandig soil painting.

“Salima is by far one of the kindest souls I have met. Her love for her community is very evident in both her words and actions (you see it in her paintings too!). It would be a shame if these works does not get the credit they deserve!” -Tine Nantes, Co-Founder Kinaadman Institute.

Salima has exhibited her artworks through Kalinawa Art Awards Foundation, Bae Mindanao, Agyu sa Lupa and Huning Lumad. During the Singapore Biennale 2013: If the World Changed event, Salima and the Talaandig Artist Group stages an art exhibit entitled Memories of the Peoples of the Earth: The Revolution of the Talaandig People at the galerry of the Singapore Art Museum, the National Museum of Singapore and the Peranakan Museum. In the month of May 2019 she exhibited her works through KULARTs Incorporated during the 2019 International Arts Festival San Francisco, California, USA. (SunStar Philippines)
