Mangani NHS Celebrates 2025 IP Day
October 9, 2025 | Mangani National High School
In celebration of the Indigenous Peoples (IP) Month, Mangani National High School officially kicked off its month-long observance last October 9, 2025, at the school’s mini-gym. The event aimed to honor and preserve the rich cultural heritage of Indigenous Peoples, recognizing their vital contributions to society and their enduring connection to nature and tradition.
Students proudly showcased their appreciation for indigenous culture by wearing vibrant tribal costumes, representing the diverse traditions and artistry of the different tribes in the Philippines. The colorful display of attire filled the school grounds with life and unity, reflecting the theme of cultural pride and inclusivity that the celebration stands for.
One of the highlights of the kick-off was the “Lumba sa Lubok ug Humay”, a fun and meaningful competition where students experienced pounding upland rice, a traditional practice that symbolizes hard work and cooperation among indigenous communities. The rhythmic pounding echoed through the mini-gym, reminding everyone of the importance of valuing the roots of Filipino heritage.
Adding excitement to the day were several IP traditional games such as Sibew, Karang, and Kasing. These games not only brought laughter and energy but also allowed the students to experience how traditional play strengthens community ties, discipline, and teamwork. Through these activities, the younger generation learned to appreciate the wisdom embedded in indigenous ways of life.
The IP Month Kick-Off Celebration at Mangani NHS became more than just a school event—it was a meaningful tribute to identity, culture, and unity. It reminded everyone that embracing diversity is essential to building an inclusive and respectful community. As the festivities ended, the message remained clear: preserving the traditions of Indigenous Peoples is preserving the very heart of our nation’s heritage.
