Another beautiful day under the waves at our Dauin reef site! 🌊🐠 Huge thanks to volunteers Anna, George and Poppy for getting stuck in today — coral fragments transplanted, reef structures checked, and another small step taken toward bringing this ecosystem back to life.
This is what marine conservation actually looks like: not glamorous, just consistent, hands-on work by people who care enough to show up. Every frag planted today is part of a reef that future divers — and future fish — will get to call home.
Want to be part of days like this? Reef Buddy Philippines welcomes volunteers of all experience levels, from total beginners to seasoned research divers. Whether you've got a weekend or a few months, there's a place for you on the team.
📍 Based in Dauin, Negros Oriental

This week, we've been working with our buddies at Caribbean Reef Buddy as we work on the protocols and methods for our new monitoring tools. For 2026 we'll be introducing 3d Photogrammetry as a tool alongside traditional reef surveys to give us a visual representation of the reefscapes we're seeing.

I just read this article that hit me hard --> https://www.thescubanews.com/2026/02/16/lost-dive-sites-reefs-that-no-longer-exist/

Since 2015, we’ve been monitoring reef health in the Caribbean with Caribbean Reef Buddy. We’ve seen firsthand how climate change, disease, overfishing, and catastrophic storms are stripping life from the reefs we love. And the truth is—it’s not just here.

Globally, the number of truly healthy reefs is shrinking fast.
Yes, reef regeneration programs like the ones we run in the Philippines and Caribbean help. But let’s be real—they’re more like a bandaid on a deep wound. The real change will only come when awareness grows and when we demand action from our leaders.

Here’s why it matters: one-third of the world’s population depends on nearshore reefs for food and livelihoods. If these ecosystems collapse, the impact will be devastating—especially for communities that can least afford it.

💙 Support local or international reef regeneration projects.
💙 But even more importantly—use your voice. Speak up. Push your elected leaders to see what they’re ignoring.

Because silence won’t save the reefs. Action will.

Some of the world’s most iconic reefs no longer exist as divers remember them. Explore the lost dive sites reshaped by bleaching, storms, and human impact, and what their disappearance means for the future of diving.
