1.

History

Established in 2014, the College of Humanities and Sciences is among the most recent colleges in De La Salle Health Sciences Institute, along with the College of Pharmacy and the College of Medical Laboratory Science. It offers the three-year trimestral BS Biochemistry program with a two-year accelerated medicine track, the first accelerated medicine program with a strong chemistry preparation in the Philippines. It was previously known as the General Education Department which housed various clusters in the fields of languages, literature, natural sciences, philosophy, religious education, social sciences, and physical education. In 2013, the various clusters were merged into two major integrated clusters – Integrated Humanities and Integrated Sciences and later turned into three departments namely: the Integrated Humanities, Integrated Sciences and the Chemistry and Biochemistry. The Chemistry and Biochemistry Department has been established and separated from the Integrated Sciences due to the offering of the BS Biochemistry program. In 2015, the three (3) departments have been restructured to only two (2) departments namely: Integrated Humanities and Sciences headed by a chair and the Chemistry headed by a Program Director. The College of Humanities and Sciences also serves as a servicing college to other undergraduate colleges in the institution for their GE courses. Vision

The College of Humanities and Sciences (CHS) of De La Salle Health Sciences Institute shall be known as the portal of Christian achievers who value excellence in arts, humanities, sciences, and socio-cultural studies. Mission

The College shall promote the Lasallian Mission by heightening the academic community’s readiness to respond positively to the needs of the society guided by the Lasallian core values of faith, zeal in service, communion in mission, and reverence for life. Objectives

2. implement programs for the advancement of sciences and appreciation of arts, humanities and culture through responsive academic programs, research and extension services;

3. bolster academic development by establishing regional, national and world-wide affiliations with other higher education institutions;

4. enhance and update general education curriculum which guarantees top quality education;

5. foster synergy and harmonious relationships with other colleges of the institution; and

6. be a resource of humanities and sciences in Region IV through competent faculty members and staff. Description of the Logo

The human head represents the humanities side in a health sciences institution like the DLSHSI. This includes the Languages and Literature, Social Sciences, Philosophy, Religious Education, Behavioral Sciences, and Physical Education. It also symbolizes the brains and the human resources of the College of Humanities and Sciences which include its administration, pool of faculty, non-teaching personnel, students, and scholars. The atomic model represents the branches of science that include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Technology, as building blocks of the universe. It also represents that science is a key foundation in education, research and innovation. The DNA model represents the link between the natural sciences and the medical sciences. Just as the atom is the foundation of the universe, the DNA is a molecule that contains the genetic information necessary for the development of life. Biochemistry is the study of the molecules of life and the DNA model is a reminder of the key in understanding life itself and that knowledge about it can be utilized for the improvement of the society. The open hands reaching out symbolize the commitment of the college to help, reach out and transform the lives of its students. The open brown book with a quill symbolizes love for learning, innovation, research, and scholarship. The Lasallian star placed at the center symbolizes the College’s sincere acknowledgment of the Lasallian Core Values: Spirit of Faith, Zeal of Service, Communion in Mission, and Reverence for Life, which serve as the light guiding all of its undertakings. The year 2014 represents the initial period of establishment of the College.

Here are some highlights from the SHS Immersion 2026! Last February, our SHS students stepped into the world of Biochemistry through 𝐂𝐀𝐒 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬: 𝐌𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐌𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐲--an immersive, hands-on experience where every clue led them closer to solving the case. 🧪🔍

From analyzing evidence to putting their laboratory skills to the test, our young detectives discovered how chemistry and biochemistry can turn science into something exciting, meaningful, and real.

This year, we're looking forward to more upcoming events where we can champion the BS Biochemistry program alongside having the best time with our Senior High School students! We can't wait to meet both new and familiar faces!

Just as our tagline goes, 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒄𝒍𝒖𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒚🔥🌊😉

Sentisentials is a community pantry initiative designed to support Sentinels as they prepare for the upcoming Prelim Examinations. The project will provide students with accessible food and academic essentials such as snacks, school supplies, and other learning materials to help them stay fueled, focused, and prepared throughout the demanding examination period. More than simply providing necessities, Sentisentials aims to foster a culture of care, generosity, and solidarity within the Sentinel community. Through this initiative, the ISC hopes to remind every student that behind every examination is a community ready to support them every step of the way.
