𝗖𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 | 𝗧𝗜𝗠 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱
The air was heavy—thick with memory.
Steps echoed through old wards and faded tenements. Walls seemed to whisper names long forgotten by history.
For decades, this was 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘐𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘋𝘦𝘢𝘥, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘐𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘕𝘰 𝘙𝘦𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘯—the world’s largest leprosarium. Here, thousands lived and died in exile, their pain sealed off by the sea. But for us who have listened to its stories, we say: this has become 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻—𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲, 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴—𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝘁, 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮.
From August 9–12, nine international youth fellows and two faculty from Union Theological Seminary, Philippines, came not as tourists but as listeners—walking through the old hospital, nursery, public toilet/baths, and archives. They heard the Indigenous Tagbanua speak of living, survival, and deep connection to the land and sea—stories braided with lament and quiet strength.
This visit came after TIM’s first two modules—Psychological and Socio-analytical—which shaped hearts and eyes to see beyond appearances, to recognize wounds and resilience alike. Now, Culion becomes the bridge to the next module—Biblical/Bible—where Scripture will be read not only from the page, but from lives at the margins, where God’s story is still being written.

In a creative and courageous act of witness, UTS Prophets - seminarians, pastors and ministerial students gathered to craft their prayers and calls —signs of resistance, lament, and solidarity—as we prepare for the People’s SONA 2025.
Led by Kasimbayan-UTS, in partnership with the Field Education Office, the workshop and prop-making became a space of reflection and collective discernment—naming the cries of the people, confronting the painful realities on the ground, and affirming our shared call to walk alongside the marginalized.
Tomorrow, July 24, 2025 at 8:00 AM, the Field Education Office will host a Worship Service to bless these placards, prayers, and prophetic calls—lifting them up as sacred offerings of faith, justice, and solidarity.
Because to pray is to act,
to hope is to resist,
and to walk with the poor is to walk with Christ.
