The central dialectic of psychological trauma is the tension between the will to deny terrible events and the will to proclaim them aloud. When survivors from abused atrocities recount their experiences, they frequently do unbelievable actions in a way that is highly emotional, contradictory, and disjointed. This undermines their credibility and serves the twin imperatives of telling the truth and secrecy.
Upon finally identifying the truth, survivors can start their path towards healing. However, secrecy rules far too frequently. And the traumatic event's tale emerges as a symptom rather than a verbal narrative.
