NEWS | To reinforce school readiness amid increasing climate-related hazards and natural disasters, Kilicao High School conducted a Training-Orientation on School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) on December 9, 2025, at the SHS Cookery Laboratory.
The activity aimed to equip teachers with updated knowledge and practical strategies to ensure the safety and protection of learners, mespecially as schools remain frontline institutions during emergencies.
Two invited speakers led the sessions. Ms. Krystel Dorosan, PDO I, discussed crucial foundational topics, including DRRMโClimate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (DRRM-CCAM) Terminologies, International and National Foundations of DRRM in the Educational Sector, and the Comprehensive DRRM in Education Framework.
These topics provided teachers with a deeper understanding of the laws, systems, and frameworks guiding disaster preparedness in schools.
The second speaker, Mr. Ryan Ludovice, Principal II of Malobago Elementary School and SDO DRRM Resource Person, emphasized the importance of Inclusive and Child-Centered DRRM and Education-in-Emergencies, highlighting the need to prioritize the safety and well-being of all learners, especially the most vulnerable.
The seminar underscored the need for continuous DRRM training as the Philippines remains highly prone to typhoons, earthquakes, and other hazards.
By strengthening teachersโ competencies in prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery, Kilicao High School reaffirms its commitment to creating a resilient and safe learning environment.
