Grade 12 STEM students of the University of the Visayas Dalaguete Campus (UVDC) began the first day of their AI Coding and Robotics Training on November 19 at the UVDC Computer Laboratory. A total of 38 students attended the session, which was facilitated by Mr. Mark Gedeon G. Silvestre, trainer for the Arduino Robotics Course.
The training started with an orientation on classroom expectations and the proper handling of robotics kits. Students then proceeded to Module 1: Introduction to Arduino, where Mr. Silvestre discussed the platformโs origins in 2005 in Ivrea, Italy, and its applications in robotics and STEM education.
Participants conducted their first hands-on tasks, including Blinking the LED and LED Light Show, which introduced them to pin configurations, basic coding, and uploading programs to the Arduino board. They also examined the components of their robotics kits in preparation for upcoming modules.
In the afternoon, students moved on to Module 2, covering variables, buttons, and if-statements. They worked on button-controlled circuits and learned the relevance of Ohmโs Law in protecting electronic components. Activities included Button LED and Potentiometer, followed by live demonstrations of outputs.
Students described the session as informative and useful in developing skills in AI, coding, and basic electronics.
The first day of the training ended with students showing enthusiasm and readiness for the next stages of the program.
