What are the age limits to Brainworks enrollment? Your children can enroll and benefit from Brainworks from age three through high school. How much does Brainworks cost? How can Brainworks help me as a parent? Brainworks gives you the tools to truly monitor your child's progress. The daily worksheets teach concepts in a logical way, so you’ll instantly know if your child is struggling with lessons – or advancing ahead of grade level. The March Equinox is coming this 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟐𝟎, 𝐚𝐭 𝟏𝟏:𝟎𝟔 𝐀𝐌 𝐏𝐡𝐒𝐓, marking the moment when the sun is directly over the equator.

The name equinox comes from the Latin words ‘𝐚𝐞𝐮𝐪𝐮𝐮𝐬’ (𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥) and ‘𝐧𝐨𝐱’ (𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭) to refer to the almost equal length of day and night. On that day, both the northern and southern hemispheres experience nearly equal amounts of daylight. Here's a brief guide to understand it in the Philippine context.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗖𝗛 𝗘𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗡𝗢𝗫

The 𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡 with respect to its orbit around the Sun causes different parts of the planet to receive varying amounts of sunlight throughout the year, which is the primary reason for our seasons.

For much of the world, the length of daytime is nearly 12 hours around the time of the March Equinox. The actual duration varies slightly across the globe, with more significant differences towards the poles. Meanwhile, the North and South Poles simultaneously experience 24-hour daylight as the sun rises in the former and sets in the latter.

On the day of the March Equinox (March 20), the length of daytime in the Philippines is already approximately six minutes longer than nighttime. It will continue to increase towards June and peak during June Solstice.

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧'𝗦 𝗜𝗡 𝗜𝗧 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗣𝗣𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗦?

Observing the equinox on the exact day may be challenging, but there are local implications that can be observed in the following days:

🌞 𝗗𝗔𝗬𝗦 𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗨𝗘 𝗚𝗘𝗧𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗟𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗘𝗥:

From the time of the March equinox to around June, the daytime length will be getting much longer than the nighttime.

🌇 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗧𝗢 𝗛𝗢𝗧 𝗗𝗥𝗬 𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗢𝗡:

Much of the country also transitions to the hot dry season around this time which will persist through May or June.

🏙️ 𝗭𝗘𝗥𝗢 𝗦𝗛𝗔𝗗𝗢𝗪 𝗗𝗔𝗬𝗦 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗚:

As the sun migrates northwards, it will be passing directly overhead parts of the Philippines in the coming weeks.

Applicants must fill out their application starting on April 15, 2024, and take the exam on August 10 and 11, 2024. They must then revisit the portal in August 2024 to fill out their grades in Form 2B and submit the hard copy of their SF-10 to the UP Office of Admissions located inside UP Diliman, Quezon City.

Addendum: Current Grade 11 students, who are expected to be in Grade 12 at the time of the UPCAT, are eligible to apply in April 2024.
