𝗕𝘂𝗵𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗶𝘄𝗮 𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗮 𝗯𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗮 𝘁𝘂𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗴𝗮𝘆 𝘀𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗸𝘁𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗿𝘆𝗮.

Limampu’t apat na taon ang nakalipas mula nang ideklara ang Batas Militar noong 1972, libo-libong mamamayan, mga estudyante, peryodista, manggagawa, at lider-komunidad, ang naging biktima ng panggigipit, pag-aresto, at paglabag sa karapatang pantao sa ilalim ng rehimeng Marcos Sr. Nagsimula ang sulo ng paglaban sa mga pamantasan, pamamahayag, at mga organisasyon, mga puwang kung saan unang umusbong ang panawagang magdala ng tunay na pagbabago sa mga lansangan.

Ayon sa mga tala ng Amnesty International at Task Force Detainees of the Philippines (TFDP), higit 70,000 katao ang ikinulong, higit 34,000 ang pinahirapan, at mayroong higit 3,240 ang pinaslang sa ilalim ng rehimeng ito. Hindi rin maitatangi ang sapilitang pagsara sa daan-daang pahayagan, istasyon ng radyo, at telebisyon upang tuluyang patahimikin ang malayang boses ng peryodismo.

Ilang taon man ang magdaan, namumutawi pa rin ang sigaw ng bayan para sa katarungan at katotohanan. Hindi kailanman mabubura ng panahon ang mga sugat ng nakaraan, ni maipapatahimik ng pananakot ang boses ng mga naninindigan. Patuloy pa rin ang panawagan sa mga lansangan upang panagutin ang pamahalaan.

Hindi pa rin natatapos ang pakikibaka laban sa korapsyon at lumalalang panggigipit sa malayang pahayagan. Subukan man nilang burahin ang mga pahina ng ating kasaysayan at palitan ito ng kasinungalingan, hindi kailanman mababaon sa limot ang dugong dumanak at sakripisyo ng mga nagtanggol sa kalayaan—at kailanman ay hindi mamamatay ang paninindigan para sa katotohanan.

Every year, as card day slowly approaches, I feel a familiar uneasiness settling in—a feeling I can never quite shake.

"𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘧 𝘐 𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘭?"
"𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘺 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬?"
"𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘣𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥?"

Suddenly, It was not just about my grades anymore—It was about wondering if they would be enough. Enough to live up to their expectations, enough to make them proud, enough to show that I am capable.

I cared so much about how others saw me that I began to let my grades become a reflection of my worth. Every high mark felt like confirmation that I was doing well, while every low one felt like a reminder of everything I thought I lacked.

I began to believe that a single failure could speak for me—that one setback could become proof that I had disappointed the people who believed in me. I started wondering if, beneath all those scores, there was still a version of myself that was worth more than what they could show.

But perhaps numbers were never meant to carry that much weight.

Everyone has something they are good at, and perhaps that is what makes each person intelligent in their own way. Some find theirs in numbers and formulas, while others find it in art, music, sports, words, or in the way they understand the world around them.

There are things that cannot be measured by a score, because no number can capture everything that makes a person who they are.

For so long, I forgot that there was a person behind those numbers.

I am more than the marks written beside my name.

My grades may describe a moment in my life, but they do not have the power to define the person I am.

They can show me where I stood.

But they cannot decide where I am going.

To foster collective emergency preparedness across the campus, a Senior High School Safety Drill and Orientation with parents, guardians, and students was conducted on September 18, 2026, at the Phinma-University of Pangasinan Gymnassium.

Spearheaded by the faculty hosts Sir Christian Mark Soy and Ma’am Jennie Ng, the event kicked off at 8:40 a.m. as they introduced the session’s primary objective: to save lives by equipping families with practical safety measures.

After the traditional opening rites, Ma’am Ginalyn E.Yares-Manipud, Principal of the Senior High School Department, delivered the welcome message. In her address, she emphasized that emergency drills must go beyond administrative compliance and be done out of care for the students’ well-being. Sir Jerico Balolong then led an interactive icebreaker to warm up the audience.

Sir Billy Joe M. Fabellore later introduced essential safety drill concepts, covering the distinctions between lockout and lockdown scenarios, active shooter response guidelines such as “Run, Hide, Fight”, and protocols during police intervention.

Further detailing the drill framework, Sir John Rico Menor presented the ex*****on sequence for the upcoming simulation, including the initial detection and warning, escalation to lockdown, emergency communication, law enforcement arrival, and transition to recovery. Concluding his segment, he announced the upcoming full-scale campus safety drill scheduled for September 24, 2026 at 9 a.m., involving all SHS students, teachers, and school administrators.

To wrap up the program, organizers addressed audience inquiries and shared final reminders, stressing the vital role of parents in monitoring child safety and upholding anti-bullying awareness. The event officially concluded at 10:50 a.m with closing acknowledgements from the hosts and the singing of the PHINMA-Upang hymn.

After much anticipation, the official results of The Flaming Courier's first screening is out! Each Journalist showed their burning passion and might for journalism through their writing, cartooning, broadcasting, and the use of imagery. These Journalists have cultivated the flame of journalism within them and took on the call of truth, as we welcome them to the publication desk may their burning passion for bringing the truth to light remain unwavering and undimmed.

As our mantra goes: "Fueling Minds, Delivering Truth", we entrust these Journalists to bring fresh perspectives not only to the publication desk, but also to the student body. As the new couriers of truth, your words now weight heavier, you no longer write just for the sake of it—you now write for a brighter purpose.

In preparation for their upcoming talent auditions, the Social Arts and Humanities Association (S.A.H.A) initiates an interactive information desk for interested Virtuosos today, 15th of September until the 18th, at the Basic Education (B.E.) building lobby.

The information desk is open from morning to the afternoon, accommodating Senior High School students’ inquiries about the upcoming talent auditions.

Anne Margareth Jazul, S.A.H.A President, expressed excitement for future virtuosos joining the association. “Whatever the performance is, it’s not the outcome that matters, the important part is if you enjoyed performing in front of others.” She quoted.

Additionally, online registrations have also been posted on SAHA’s official page, while auditions will be held on September 23, 2026, at the MBA Building’s Audio-Visual Room.

The Supreme Student Council (SSC) has officially submitted a 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 appealing for a temporary shift to 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟳, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, in consideration of the safety and well-being of students affected by the ongoing flooding and hazardous travel conditions.

Although campus conditions have normalized, the SSC, together with the 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁-𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘀, has consolidated reports indicating that several students continue to experience 𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 in their respective areas.

The Council has also requested the administration to consider 𝘄𝗮𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
for students who may be unable to attend face-to-face classes due to circumstances beyond their control.

Following the Supreme Student Council’s (SSC) formal request for a temporary shift to remote learning for 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟳, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, the University Administration has officially responded and issued immediate directives addressing the concerns raised regarding weather-related absences and student safety.

The University Administration has implemented the following measures:

🔹𝗪𝗔𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗢𝗙 𝗔𝗕𝗦𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗗𝗢𝗖𝗨𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡
Effective immediately, students who are absent due to weather-related circumstances are 𝗻𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝗮 𝗟𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗟𝗘), 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝘆 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Students only need to send a brief message to their instructors when they are able to do so.

🔹𝗚𝗨𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗘𝗗 𝗔𝗖𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗠𝗜𝗖 𝗙𝗟𝗘𝗫𝗜𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬
The Administration emphasized that 𝗻𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆. Instructors are mandated to provide 𝗮𝘀𝘆𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵-𝘂𝗽 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀. Students who choose to remain at home for their safety will have their decision respected and protected.

🔹𝗖𝗔𝗠𝗣𝗨𝗦 𝗔𝗦 𝗔 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗖𝗘
Face-to-face classes will 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱, with the campus operating essentially under a 𝗵𝘆𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗽. Students are encouraged to prioritize their personal safety when deciding whether to travel to campus.

To provide students with greater comfort and peace of mind during this period, the 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝘂𝗽𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘀 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱. Students may refer to the CSDL Fit Check Guide, posted in August 2026, for guidance on appropriate attire when entering the University.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗦𝗖 𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗱𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻’𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆. These measures aim to ensure that students can prioritize their safety while still having access to academic support and flexibility.

The SSC will continue to 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 and remain in communication with the University Administration to ensure that the welfare and concerns of the student body are properly addressed.

𝘾𝘼𝙍𝙏𝙊𝙊𝙉 | 𝙎𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙃𝙚𝙧𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝘼𝙧𝙚𝙣’𝙩 𝙊𝙣 𝙋𝙚𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙨

August felt like a blistering ocean wave, a rendezvous between typhoons, a time when the horizon seemingly unites both the flood and the sky as one; a place where we drown even above water. But despite what looks like an endless downpour of rain, these heroes still set foot on the ground even as their bodies suffocate in the water, doing everything to save us from merging into the flood.

We may not know who they are. They may even fade back into the crowd after the rain ends, but today, we let this day be their day as well. Nobility isn’t just defined as being on a pedestal. Their grit, their benevolence, and their will to sacrifice themselves to keep fellow citizens afloat are already enough to give them the title.

To all the rescuers who keep going, we thank you. We recognize you. We see you. And even after the rain goes away and the sun shows up again, we honor you for being the rays of light before the darkest clouds disperse. We will look up to you, even as the rain blurs our vision.

Today, we remember the Filipino heroes whose courage and sacrifice helped shape the nation we proudly call home. They stood for freedom, defended our people, and gave their strength for a future they might never see.

Their stories remain woven into the history of our country and the freedom we hold today. May we honor their legacy by carrying forward the courage, love, and service they gave to the Philippines.

𝗞𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗵𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗻, 𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗻.

Ayon sa ulat ng Reporters Without Borders (RSF) ukol sa 2026 World Press Freedom Index, pumang-114 ang Pilipinas sa 180 bansa. Bagama't bahagyang umakyat ang puwesto nito mula sa ika-116 noong nakaraang taon, nananatili pa ring isa sa pinakadelikadong lugar sa mundo ang bansa para sa mga mamamahayag.

Idagdag pa rito ang ulat ng Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility (CMFR) na nakapagtala ng 239 na kaso ng atake at banta laban sa mga mamamahayag mula Hulyo 2022 hanggang Abril 2026. Kabilang dito ang 107 kaso ng 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 at 49 na kaso ng pisikal at 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵. Isinasaad sa parehong datos ng CMFR na halos kalahati ng mga naitalang insidente ng pagbabanta ay direktang nauugnay sa mga opisyal ng pamahalaan, kapulisan, at militar.

Hindi kailanman naging libre ang katotohanan; madalas, ang kapalit nito ay ang iyong kalayaan at kaligtasan. At para sa mga mamamahayag, ito ang mismong halagang kailangan nilang bayaran upang maipahatid ito sa publiko. Sa bawat ulat na inilalabas at bawat isyung ibinubunyag, isinaalang-alang ng mga mamamahayag ang kanilang sariling kapakanan upang tiyakin lamang na hindi mananatiling bulag at bingi ang lipunan.

At sa tuwing ang peryodismo ay ginigipit, binubusalan, at pinaliligiran ng banta, ang publiko ang siyang nawawalan ng karapatang makabatid ng katotohanan—at kapag bulag ang publiko, madaling mawala ang kalayaan ng buong bayan.

Hindi na natin dapat hayaang mangibabaw ang takot at kawalan ng pananagutan. Ang pakikipaglaban para sa malayang pamamahayag ay hindi lamang panawagan ng mga mamamahayag, tungkulin ito ng bawat Pilipinong naghahangad ng katarungan.

Hindi sapat ang bayang malaya kung busal ang pahayagan—sapagkat ang tunay kalayaan ay nabubuhay lamang sa tanglaw ng malayang katotohanan.
