The UPOU Faculty of Education will be offering ECED 201 Foundations of Early Childhood Education this coming 3rd Trimester AY2025-2026 (June to September 2026). ECED 201 is a 3-unit stand-alone, non-degree course that aims to provide early childhood practitioners with a sound understanding of the historical and theoretical rationale for creating child-centered learning communities. It is offered to all interested applicants who have previously earned a bachelor’s degree.

Some children are not ignoring you. They just cannot respond in that moment.

They might be deeply focused on what they are doing. They might not have processed what you said yet. They might feel overwhelmed, tired, or unsure what you actually mean. And sometimes, the more we repeat instructions, the less children really hear them.

What looks like “not listening” is often a child struggling with attention, understanding, or emotions.

When adults shift from repeating, raising their voice, or assuming defiance, and instead slow down, connect, and give clear, simple guidance, behaviour often changes.

Children do better when they feel understood, not controlled.
