The Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College – Tagudin Campus successfully conducted a webinar titled “Practical Techniques for OS-Level Security” on March 27 at 10:00 AM via Google Meet. Anchored on the theme “Strengthening System Security Through Practical OS-Level Strategies,” the event aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of securing operating systems against modern threats.

The webinar featured Prof. Andrew C. Caronongan, MIT, as the resource speaker, who delivered an insightful discussion on practical OS-level security techniques. His session focused on essential areas such as OS-level security fundamentals, threat detection techniques, and practical security implementation.

Participants gained valuable knowledge on how to identify vulnerabilities within operating systems, detect potential threats, and apply effective security measures in real-world scenarios. A key highlight of the summit was the participation of Dr. Diosdado C. The 2026 Institutional Research Conference at the University of Luzon successfully brought together faculty, students, and researchers in a meaningful exchange of ideas centered on the theme “Fostering Research Excellence at UL for Education and Institutional Advancement.” The event highlighted the university’s commitment to advancing knowledge, innovation, and evidence-based practices across disciplines.

The conference featured engaging presentations from both the Professional and Student Categories, each assigned to their respective tracks and rooms, allowing for focused discussions and in-depth exploration of research topics.

In the Professional Category, Prof. Rina V. Cabansag presented their collaborative study titled “CampusConnect Navigation System for the University of Luzon College of Computer Studies.” Her research introduced an innovative solution aimed at improving campus navigation and accessibility, reflecting the integration of technology to enhance the student experience.

Meanwhile, in the Student Category, Mr. Lee S. Manuel, Jr. showcased their collaborative research titled “Wi-Fi Reward System Through Plastic Bottle Waste Management in the College of Computer Studies.” His study demonstrated a creative and sustainable approach by combining environmental responsibility with technological incentives, encouraging proper waste management within the campus.

The 78th Foundation Anniversary Frolics lit up the stage last March 4, 2026, bringing together energy, creativity, and a whole lot of retro flair! 💃🕺

The celebration featured the much-anticipated Cluster Team Presentation, where a dynamic group composed of the College of Computer Studies, UL Library, Network Operations Center, and the Management Information Systems – Electronic Data Processing Center delivered an electrifying dance performance. Blending modern moves with nostalgic beats, their routine brought funky disco vibes and classic throwback energy to life—truly a showcase of unity, talent, and collaboration across departments!

But the spotlight didn’t stop there… 👑✨

The crowd cheered louder as we witnessed the dazzling Search for Mr. and Ms. Retro King, where style, confidence, and vintage charisma ruled the night. Among the standout candidates was Ms. Ruzleen Kate Soriano, who brought grace, charm, and true retro elegance to the stage, adding even more excitement to the competition.

🚀 AWS User Group Pangasinan – 5th Meetup (Featuring Kiro)

The AWS User Group Pangasinan successfully hosted its 5th Meetup on February 7, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, in Pantal, Dagupan City. The full-day event was packed with insights and meaningful tech discussions.

The meetup featured engaging discussions about Kiro, highlighting how it fits into modern cloud workflows, along with an introduction to AWS BuilderCards and how they support builders and learners in exploring AWS services. The conversations were practical, relevant, and beginner-friendly—perfect for both professionals and students.

A key highlight of the meetup was the discussion on cybersecurity while using Kiro, where participants explored the importance of secure practices, risk awareness, and responsible use of cloud-based tools. This part sparked thoughtful exchanges, especially on how security should always go hand-in-hand with innovation.

The event was attended by Prof. Cee Jay A. Lomibao, Ms. Ruzleen Kate C. Soriano, and three UL Computer Studies students, making it a great mix of experience and fresh perspectives. The students gained real-world exposure, while everyone benefited from open discussions and shared insights.

🔬💻 UL College of Computer Studies faculty members participated in the [AAP x QCSP] Exploring Quantum Computing for Data Science Applications seminar, conducted via Zoom on February 5, 2026.

The session was facilitated by Engr. Dylan Josh Lopez, Director for Partnerships and Collaborations at the Quantum Computing Society of the Philippines (QCSP) and a Ph.D. candidate at Chung Yuan Christian University. He delivered a wonderfully complex and comprehensive discussion on quantum computing concepts and their growing relevance to data science applications.

The seminar provided valuable insights into advanced computational approaches, emerging technologies, and future directions in data-driven research, reinforcing UL Computer Studies’ commitment to continuous learning and faculty development in the computing discipline.
