Homeschooling parents sacrifice a lot of their own free time day to day by teaching their kids from home and deeply engage themselves, taking a more active role in their kids’ education. In recent years, parent involvement or family engagement has been widely accepted as the key to improving children’s academic performance and expected in good parenting. A meta-analysis of 66 studies shows that parental involvement in education leads to greater student success and increased confidence, according to the National Parent Teacher Association. “Family involvement improves student success, regardless of race/ethnicity, social class or parents’ level of education.” Children with families engaged in their education are more likely to:
* Earn higher grades and test scores
* Graduate from high school and attend post-secondary education
* Develop self-confidence and motivation in the classroom
* Have better social skills and classroom behavior
They are also less likely to:
* Suffer from low self-esteem
* Require redirection in the classroom
* Develop behavioral issues
Let us remember to be supportive parents who are focused on the learning and not grades, sensitive to our children’s needs and are available to help only when requested.
