Implementing Guidelines for the Enhanced Alternative Learning System (ALS)
DepEd Order No. 001, s. 2026 provides updated implementing guidelines for the Enhanced Alternative Learning System (ALS), institutionalizing flexible learning pathways and standardized procedures nationwide starting School Year 2026–2027.

Key Features of the Enhanced ALS
• Flexible Learning Modalities: Formalizes face-to-face, blended, and distance learning options.
• Assessment & Progress: Prioritizes portfolio-based assessments and individual learning agreements.
• Competency-Based Mastery: Allows learners to progress based on demonstrated mastery rather than age or length of enrollment.
• Recognition of Prior Learning: Introduces micro-certifications and formally recognizes previously gained skills.
• Expanded Coverage: Serves out-of-school children in special cases, youth, and adults (OSYA), including persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) and indigenous peoples. 
Program Tracks & Curriculum
• Basic Literacy Program (BLP): Focuses on reading, writing, and numeracy.
• Accreditation & Equivalency (A&E): Covers Elementary and Junior High School levels, aligned more closely with the formal K to 12 curriculum.
• ALS-EST: Combines basic education with technical-vocational skills training for employability.
• Senior High School (SHS): A strengthened ALS SHS track is being developed, with separate guidelines forthcoming. 
Implementation Timeline
• Policy Issued: January 19, 2026.
• Full Nationwide Implementation: Commences in School Year 2026–2027 for all schools division offices.
