Wednesday, October 4, 2023. I still remember it crystal clearโthis was the day I was elected as the new President of the NAVS Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD). It wasnโt just a date; it was a turning point that changed the course of my life.
I still remember how young I wasโunprepared, scared, and full of doubt. I questioned my ability to carry the weight of responsibility that came with leadership. But I had no choice but to accept the calling that had found me.
One thing I held onto was my conversation with God. I asked Him for courage, guidance, and a deeper sense of purpose.
My journey hasnโt been easy, but by Godโs grace, I endured. I servedโnot just one term, but two.
And today, as a new set of officers is elected, I sat quietly in that room once again. My name was nominated for the presidency. I declined. I respectfully gave my reasons. Then I sat back and sighedโa breath of quiet relief.
I knew I still had the support. I couldโve led again, maybe even stronger. But I realized something deeper: it was time. Time for a new administration to rise. Time for me to let go of something that had already written its chapter in my life.
My soul wept, but my heart was calm. It felt like a tight grip on my chest had finally been released. I felt light.
These two years of leading BKD have been nothing short of life-changing. BKD brought out the courage that had long been hidden within me. It molded me into the leader I am today. It gave me purpose.
I once led BKD into the regional and national spotlightโBid Training Camp, JCI Antique Kruhay, Project Himsog with Kawsa PH. Under my leadership, I am profoundly grateful that BKD gained recognition not just here in NAVS, but in the wider province of Antique.
Letting go of BKD feels like saying goodbye to someone you never planned to leave. Itโs like parting ways with a close-knit best friend, a partner in crime, or a puzzle piece that once filled a missing part of your soul.
But letting go also means Iโm ready for whatโs next. I welcome new challenges, new doors, and new journeys. BKD was never the endโit was my preparation. It trained me, tested me, and taught me.
And before I finally pass the torch, I want to say thank you.
To all the BKD members who trusted and walked beside meโthank you.
To my fellow officers, co-leaders, and supportersโthank you.
To my advisers who believed in me even when I doubted myselfโthank you.
And above all, to Sir Jhon Cedric Alorro, who stood by me from Day 1, offering his full support, guidance, and unwavering belief in my capabilitiesโthank you. Your presence made all the difference. You were more than just an adviserโyou were a mentor and a compass.
This is not goodbye. This is a handover.
To the next leader: take care of BKD.
To BKD: thank you for changing me.
To the future: Iโm ready.
This is Eliezer Don Xerxes T. Berdin, your former NAVS Barkada Kontra Droga Presidentโfinally signing off.
