We cannot just say anything we want about another, especially in public. As the Supreme Court held in the case of Rico, et. al. v. Badoy, G.R. No. 263383, August 15, 2023, citing the case of Soriano v. Laguardia, 605 Phil 43 (2009):

"The freedom to express one's sentiments and belief does not grant one the license to vilify in public the honor and integrity of another. Any sentiments must be expressed within the proper forum and with proper regard for the rights of others."

In the world of the internet, how do we deal with statements made by persons that breach the boundaries of protected speech? What are we to do when someone makes a post on social media to insult, defame, or embarrass us? How are we sure that the things we say about others in the cyber world will not incriminate us?

A working scholar assigned at the NDU College of Law was brutally murdered this morning.

His name was Michael Jan Losaria Mangulamas and dearly known to us as "Mic" or "Michael."

He was shot dead by unknown assailant/s as he was going home after attending the Church.

As we continue to seek justice for Michael, we invite you to pray with us for the reposed of his soul and for the perseverance and comfort of his family in these trying times.

We the faculty at the NDU College of Law have taken the initiative of gathering donations for the financial assistance to his family. You may join us by giving your donations thru the following accounts.

We are also in the process of gathering lawyers and volunteers who may render free legal assistance to the bereaved family of Michael in order to apprehend, prosecute and punish whoever are the perpetrators of this heartless heinous act.

We are not moving on from love!
