𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗: Three young women topped this year’s nationwide entrance examinations of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA), proving that women are not only capable of intellectual excellence but also of courage and leadership in the military field.

Leading the list of 1,436 successful examinees is Amanda Isabel Guzman from the Philippine Science High School – Bicol Region. She is followed by Gwen Kyla Phalashol from Philippine Science High School – Central Mindanao Campus in second place, and Aafia Khim Alzeynaah Lomondaya from Albert Einstein School Inc. in third.

Out of 33,640 online applicants who took the examination from July to September 2025 across 48 testing centers nationwide, 24,671 qualified for the preliminary stage. However, only 1,436, or 5.82 percent, passed the final selection, an improvement from last year’s 5.02 percent passing rate.

The successful examinees will now undergo a rigorous process of medical, physical, and psychological evaluations before being officially accepted as members of the PMA Class of 2030, which will begin training in May 2026. The candidates come from different regions across the country, including Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Region, CALABARZON, Region 2, and Region 10.

The PMA was established in 1905 under the American colonial government as the Philippine Constabulary School in Baguio. Its mission is to train officers who possess discipline, intelligence, and leadership - qualities essential for the nation’s armed forces. Over the decades, it has become the premier institution for developing officers of the Philippine Army, Navy, and Air Force, who serve as pillars of national defense.

In its long history, it was only in 1993 that women were officially allowed to enter the PMA, following calls for gender equality and modernization within the military. Since then, numerous female cadets have proven their excellence, with some rising to high-ranking positions in the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

The achievement of this year’s top three female passers symbolizes the continued expansion of opportunities for women in public service. At a time when the country seeks leaders with heart, intellect, and bravery, the PMA remains a beacon of honor, courage, and service to the nation.
