| CHS Council marks leadership transition
Notre Dame University (NDU) โ College of Health Sciences (CHS) Student Council formally transitioned its leadership to the newly elected officers for A.Y. 2026โ2027 during its Turnover Ceremony on August 19, 2026, at the Nursing Arts Room (NAR) 3, Cariรฑo Building.
One of the highlights of the ceremony was the turnover and acceptance of the key of responsibility. College Dean Mary Jane J. Balawag, PhD, RN, and CHS Council Adviser for Operations Greg L. Barata, RN, MNE, stood in for Bai Jamaykha U. Sla, outgoing Governor, in handing over the key to Jannah Amirah V. Abdulkarim, incoming Governor, to formally transfer the leadership to the new administration.
The program continued with the presentation of the outgoing and newly elected officers and advisers by Mr. Barata. Afterwards, he then led the formal induction of the incoming officers.
Outgoing CHS Vice Governor Nor A. Ebrahim presented the councilโs accomplishments for the A.Y. 2025-2026, while incoming CHS Board Member Rayyan Z. Maliga presented the council inventory. Ms. Abdulkarim then presented the incoming councilโs operational plans for the current academic year.
In her message, Ms. Sla emphasized leadership as the act of carrying responsibility even when it goes unseen. She also urged the incoming administration to remain resolved and clever.
โAlways anticipate, repair, and think ten times ahead. And as we always say in CHS, be resourceful,โ Ms. Sla said.
Meanwhile, Ms. Abdulkarim reminded the newly inducted officers to remain committed to their responsibilities and encouraged them to recognize their growth during moments of uncertainty.
โIn moments where you doubt yourself, try to remind yourself of how far youโve come,โ Ms. Abdulkarim remarked.
Dr. Balawag also delivered her message, advising both administrations to learn from one another. The ceremony concluded with the closing remarks from Angel Fay S. Delos Santos, incoming Vice Governor, officially marking the beginning of the new CHS Council administration.
