𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐚

Assalamu'alaykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu! ☺️

Would You destroy us for the deeds of the foolish ones among us?" (A'raf, 7:155)

𝘼 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣'𝙨 𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙖 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙛𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙝𝙤𝙥𝙚. It is necessary for a believer to maintain a balance between fear and hope through his or her entire life. For at the one extreme of fear there is despair, and at the opposite extreme is over-confidence and certainty. For this reason, being certain of Allah's forgiveness or abandoning hope of His generosity is forbidden in Islam. A perfect believer is one who maintains a balance between these two stances, as described in the Qur'an:

They forsake their beds and give up sleep, while they call on their Lord, in fear and hope; and they spend (in charity) out of the sustenance which We have bestowed on them. (Sajda, 32:16)

𝘼𝙗𝙨𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙚 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙥𝙖𝙞𝙧 𝙤𝙧 𝙖𝙗𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙝𝙤𝙥𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝘼𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙝'𝙨 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙞𝙨 𝙖 𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙤𝙛 𝙃𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙮, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙮 𝙢𝙚𝙖𝙣𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙤𝙛 𝘼𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙝'𝙨 𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮, 𝙤𝙢𝙣𝙞𝙥𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙢𝙖𝙜𝙣𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚. However, the opposite attitude - absolute confidence in Allah's generosity - results in denial of Allah as al-Qahhar (the Subduer), and to a disregard of His recompense.

In short, a person must keep a balance without fearing Allah to the point of despair, but also without being hopeful to the point of neglecting one's duties. Extraordinary events, like the earthquake we recently experienced in Turkey (1999 earthquake which killed thousands of people), may make maintaining this balance very difficult at times.

A believer should be in such a state of mind that whenever he or she is told. "𝙊𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙗𝙚 𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙚!" that person should ask themselves "𝙒𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙞𝙩 𝙗𝙚 𝙢𝙚?" or whenever he or she is told "𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙃𝙚𝙡𝙡!" he or she should wonder "𝙒𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙄 𝙗𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣?"

Allah the Almighty warns people and teaches them through heavenly or earthly disasters to inculcate consciousness of the divine in their hearts, and to protect them from following their own desires. It is sheer folly to believe that these calamities happen by accident or at random. The death and injury of thousands of people and the resulting destitution and homelessness that these disasters cause are not meaningless or pointless. If this were the case, it would be impossible to understand the logical points of life, death and the divine program, and to explain them plausibly. These disasters are the manifestations of divine greatness, and the Creator's omnipotence.

"𝙎𝙞𝙣𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙞𝙜𝙣𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚, 𝙨𝙚𝙭𝙪𝙖𝙡 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙧𝙚, 𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧, 𝙝𝙖𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙙, 𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙢𝙗𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, 𝙟𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙚𝙭𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚."

These tendencies are obstacles which take man away from his Creator. If man becomes truly aware of himself, he can be disturbed by the weight of his vice. The hidden emotion of virtue awakes in his heart, and his heart finds peace in Allah by shedding tears of great regret and sorrow. This sorrow and regret is tawbah (repentance), which means literally turning to Allah voluntarily before the involuntary return of death comes. In other words, tawbah means removing the obstacles between man and Allah through the emotion of regret.

Tawbah is the first step which is necessary for the return to Allah, because sins are obstacles which decrease the sensitivity of the heart and slow it down. This state is just like cloudy images in a dirty mirror. In order to see the reflection in this dirty mirror properly it is necessary to wipe it with a clean cloth. Likewise, returning to Allah makes it necessary to cleanse the heart with tawbah from all sins, which are dross over the heart. That is why in all branches of tasawwuf the first thing to do is to 𝙖𝙨𝙠 𝘼𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙝 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 (istighfär). This looks just like the subtle point "la" in the declaration of Oneness (kalimat al-tawhid), la ilaha illa Allah, which means "There is no god but Allah." In other words, first it is necessary to remove all negatives and prepare a suitable base for the real objective.

Thus, seeking forgiveness from Allah is almost a requirement for sincere prayers. Rúmi says; "Seek forgiveness from Allah with a heart full of regret and tearful eyes because flowers bloom in moist soils.

𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐮'𝐀𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐤𝐮𝐦 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐡𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐡𝐢 𝐖𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐤𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐡𝐮! 🤍☺

"𝙎𝙖𝙩𝙖𝙣 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙨 𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙤 𝙖 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙝𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙧𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙞𝙩 𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙥𝙨 𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙙𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨."

We should not misunderstand the nature of sincerity, especially in refraining from performing good deeds due to the fear of ostentation. Sometimes Satan inspires man not to do a good action because he is not sincere, and in that way keeps man away from good actions. We might sometimes get the feeling of ostentation and lack of sincerity in our actions. However, instead of refraining from these good actions, 𝙬𝙚 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨. The path of sincerity is not an easy path. There are many difficulties. It requires fighting against the nafs and its base desires. We can climb to the pinnacle of sincerity step by step. It is necessary that we both use our willpower and to ask for divine help in attaining this station. In order to achieve this aim, the following points should be followed:

1) Through remembrance of Allah and the repetition of His names we must 𝙩𝙧𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝘼𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙝'𝙨 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚𝙨. When we perform an action, we must know that Allah is watching over us. ✨

2) We must 𝙠𝙚𝙚𝙥 𝙖 𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙡 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 with the Prophet and other good people who follow the path of the Prophet (upon him blessings and peace). Through this spiritual connection we must strive to obtain their spiritual energy, which is called fayd in Sufi terminology. ✨

3) We must 𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙄𝙨𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙘 𝙨𝙪𝙝𝙗𝙖𝙝𝙨 (sermons and talks about Islam). In these gatherings we must 𝙩𝙧𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙚𝙣𝙟𝙤𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙩𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙗𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙙/𝙨𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙄𝙨𝙡𝙖𝙢. We must also learn how to sacrifice ourselves for our brothers and sisters. ✨

4) We should 𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙚 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙝𝙪𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝘼𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙝 (𝙎𝙒𝙏). ✨

5) We should 𝙚𝙖𝙩 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙡 (Islamically permitted) means. When the food comes from haram (illegal) ways, the heart cannot find any inclination towards serving Allah sincerely. ✨

The important thing is that through these works we must realize the beauties of Islam in our hearts and attain the reality of sincerity in our deeds. It is very difficult nowadays to find sincere people. People are mostly running after worldly gains and they think of human beings as mere objects used to reach these targets. May Allah help us all in the path of attaining sincerity towards Him, the Almighty.
