Ibn Taimiyah Foundation Academy, Inc. held its National Su***de Prevention Week from September 22 to 25 at the school campus, carrying the theme, โEvery Mind Matters, Every Voice Counts, Every Life Has Value.โThe program aimed to raise awareness about mental health and su***de prevention while emphasizing the importance of seeking support and talking to trusted individuals when facing emotional difficulties.
The week-long program was spearheaded by the Student Peer Facilitators, together with their adviser, Maโam Rauda Esmail. Normina S. Esmail, RN, Mental Health Focal Person of the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Sultan Kudarat, served as the guest speaker and discussed mental health awareness and su***de prevention. She emphasized that it is okay to experience difficult emotions and encouraged students to express their feelings, reach out to trusted people, and seek appropriate support when needed.
โHopefully, through this kind of awareness campaign, we can further reach and educate more young people about mental healthโhow they can take care of themselves, manage not only their physical health but also their mental and emotional well-being, and learn how to interact positively with the people around them,โ Esmail added.
Students also participated in various activities throughout the program, including a Mental Health Quiz Bee, Safe Spaces Poster-Making, Slogan-Making Contest, โStories of Hopeโ storytelling, and a short video-making contest. These activities provided students with opportunities to express their thoughts, promote mental health awareness, and encourage a supportive and caring school community.
