The program was concluded with valuable inputs and takeaways from the resource speaker.

Today is the 107th birth anniversary of National Artist Lucrecia R. Kasilag.

Lucrecia R. Kasilag, an educator, composer, performing artist, administrator and cultural entrepreneur of national and international caliber, had involved herself wholly in sharpening the Filipino audience’s appreciation of music. Kasilag’s pioneering task to discover the Filipino roots through ethnic music and fusing it with Western influences has led many Filipino composers to experiment with such an approach.

She dared to incorporate indigenous Filipino instruments in orchestral productions, such as the prize-winning “Toccata for Percussions and Winds, Divertissement and Concertante,” and the scores of the Filiasiana, Misang Pilipino, and De Profundis. “Tita King”, as she was fondly called, worked closely as music director with colleagues Lucresia Reyes-Urtula, Isabel Santos, Jose Lardizabal and Dr. Leticia P. de Guzman and made Bayanihan Philippine Dance Company one of the premier artistic and cultural groups in the country.

The details of the logo signifies the following:
• Concepcion Holy Cross College Lettering - represents our beloved institution
• Dancers - they portray passion and determination
• Circles - represents infinity, wholeness, and perfection.
• Cultural and Arts Unit Lettering - it emphasizes the Dance Troupe as part of the Cultural and Arts Unit
• Wavy Circle - represents a sense of movement and gracefulness
• Chain - it represents unity, teamwork, and interconnectedness.
• HOROS - it means dance in Ancient Greece

𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐒 | The Cultural and Arts Unit (Dance Troupe) conducted a Special Meeting last August 16, 2024 (FRIDAY) regarding the schedule of activities for the month of August as well as their Performance Evaluation and the rebranding of CHCCI Dance troupe.

The meeting was attended by the HOROS Dance Troupe Officers.

In accordance with the State’s directive to safeguard, promote, and disseminate the nation’s historical and cultural heritage, along with its artistic expressions, the Office of the President has issued Proclamation No. 664 series of 2024 which declares 13 August 2024 to 12 August 2025 as the Centennial Year honoring Manlilikha ng Bayan Magdalena Gamayo.

Magdalena Gamayo, a weaving virtuoso from the Ilocano community in Ilocos Norte, was recognized as a Manlilikha ng Bayan (National Living Treasure) through proclamation no. 474 series of 2012. Her significant contributions to the advancement of the Ilocano abel are marked by her use of traditional patterns and her mastery of weaving techniques, which have greatly enriched the distinctiveness of her designs.

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts will take the lead in organizing and overseeing the celebration during the centennial year of Manlilikha ng Bayan Magdalena Gamayo. All national government agencies and instrumentalities are strongly encouraged to actively participate and provide support to the NCCA in carrying out the provisions of this proclamation.

𝐍𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐆𝐒𝐀𝐊 𝐊𝐄𝐍 𝐍𝐀𝐆𝐀𝐒𝐀𝐓 𝐀 𝐏𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐆𝐊𝐀𝐒𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐀𝐘𝐌𝐎, 𝐍𝐀𝐍𝐀 𝐃𝐀𝐋𝐄𝐍!

Ating ipinagdiriwang ang ika-100 kaarawan ni Manlilikha ng Bayan Magdalena Gamayo.

Si Magdalena Gamayo ay ipinanganak noong ika-13 ng Agosto 1924 sa Pinili Ilocos Norte. Isa sa mga nasa pangunang hanay sa pagpapanatili at pagpapayaman ng tradisyon ng paghabi ng mga Ilocano. Siya ay natutong maghabi ng abel mula sa edad na 16 sa pamamagitan ng pag-aaral ng mga paraan ng kanyang tiyahin sa kaalamang ipinasa ng mga henerasyon ng kababaihan sa pamilya. Ang paghabi ay naging lakas niya sa kabila ng mga pagsubok sa buhay na nagdulot ng katatagan ng loob at dedikasyon na kaniyang iniaalay sa bawat habi na kanyang nililikha.

Nakilala sa pamamagitan ng kanyang likas na talento at atensyon sa detalye, si Magdalena Gamayo ay naging natatanging manghahabi nang walang pormal na pagsasanay. Pinagkadalubhasaan niya ang mga kumplikadong disenyo at pamamaraan ng paghahabi, na makikita sa kaniyang mga abel gaya na lamang ng disenyong "Inubon a Sabong". Ang kanyang dedikasyon sa pagpapayaman at pagpapaunlad sa tradisyon ng paghabi ay nagbunsod sa kanya upang magturo sa mga miyembro ng kaniyang komunidad, simula sa mga kabataan ng kanyang bayan at kalaunan kasama na rin ang mga nasa labas ng Ilocos, na nagbunga sa pagpapatuloy ng tradisyon ng paghabi para sa mga susunod na henerasyon.

Noong 2012, pinarangalan si MB Gamayo bilang Manlilikha ng Bayan sa bisa ng Proklamasyon ng Pangulo ng Pilipinas bilang 474, s. 2012. Ipinagdiriwang ng pagkilalang ito ang kanyang dedikasyon at husay sa paghahabi ng Inabel, gayundin ang kanyang tungkulin sa pagpapasa ng mga tradisyong ito. Ang kanyang dediksyon ay naglalaman ng pangangalaga sa kultura, na nagbibigay-diin sa kaniyang disiplina at pangako sa pagpapanatili ng mga kultura ng mga Ilocano. Sa pamamagitan ng kanyang mga pagsisikap, pinangangalagaan niya ang napakahalagang pamana ng Inabel para sa mga susunod na henerasyon, na nagpapayaman sa pamana ng komunidad at sa pambansang hibla ng kultura.

𝐈𝐍 𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐓𝐎𝐒 | The Cultural and Arts Unit Dance Troupe successfully conducted the 1st Regular Training to its members spearheaded by Mr. Ivan Kenneth C. Mendoza, Cultural and Arts (Dance Troupe) Coordinator.

The dancers were challenged as Mr. Mendoza asked them to create their own choreography with the music provided and with the given time to them.

The dancers are set to show their talent as they will proceed with their Performance Evaluation on their next training.

𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄: The CHCCI Dance Troupe Cultural and Arts Unit under the Student Development Unit has successfully conducted its 1st KAPEhan session together with Mr. Ivan Kenneth Mendoza, CHCCI Dance Troupe Coordinator. The KAPEhan session aims to have an informal meeting while enjoying a cup of their favorite coffee drinks during their leisure hours. The agenda of the meeting includes Kamustahan session, Planning of Activities, Re-election of Officers and others.

The session concluded with valuable inputs in terms of planning and implementation of future projects, programs and activities of the Dance Troupe.
