Established on November 29, 1978, the UPLB Zoological Society (OZOOMS) is a duly recognized academic organization of the University of the Philippines Los Baños. For over 40 years, the organization continues to promote academic excellence, service, leadership, and commitment through its various initiatives centered around environmental protection and biodiversity conservation. Housing over 600 members, OZOOMS has aided some of the country's best and brightest in realizing their potential to serve the Filipino people. Despite generational divide, the organization has proven time and time again that indeed OZOOMS is not a phylum or a class, but a family.

Not every creature inspires affection at first glance. Some slither, some crawl, and some watch us quietly from the corners of our homes. For many, their presence is enough to provoke unease, their unfamiliar features enough to warrant suspicion. Beyond their scales and striking adaptations lies an incredible diversity of life, shaped by millions of years of evolution and sustained by complex relationships within their ecosystems. Each species offers us an opportunity to learn more about the natural world and our place within it. ✨🦎

Understanding wildlife begins with curiosity, but it must extend to the way we treat the lives that share our environment. Perhaps it is time to look closer, question what we have always assumed, and make room for creatures that have long been here with us. 🩷💚

How different would the world feel if we stopped looking at it only through our own eyes? 🌏

Every day, we move through a world shaped by human perspectives. We give places names, draw boundaries, assign value, and decide what belongs where. It can be easy to forget that the world does not exist solely through the meanings we give it.

This 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗣𝗟𝗕 𝗭𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆

Nakikiisa ang 𝗨𝗣𝗟𝗕 𝗭𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 sa buong komunidad ng UPLB sa gaganaping 𝗨𝗣𝗟𝗕 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗼𝘂𝘁 bukas nang Biyernes, Setyembre 18.

Bilang mga mag-aaral ng 𝗭𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆, araw-araw naming pinag-aaralan kung paano magkakaugnay ang bawat organismo at ang kapaligirang kanilang ginagalawan. Mula sa pinakamaliit na hayop na pinag-aaralan sa laboratoryo hanggang sa mga hayop na umaasa sa likas na yaman para mabuhay, malinaw na ang pangangalaga sa buhay ay hindi maaaring ihiwalay sa pangangalaga sa kanilang tirahan.

Kaya naman mahalaga ang pagkakaroon ng sapat na pondo para sa edukasyon, pananaliksik, at mga pasilidad na nagbibigay-daan sa mas malalim na pag-aaral ng ating biodiversity. Sa gitna ng mga usapin tungkol sa budget cuts at Pax Silica, hindi lamang mga numero at proyekto ang nakataya, kundi pati ang kinabukasan ng siyensya, kalikasan, at mga komunidad na umaasa rito.

Sa pagharap ng mga ito, mahalaga ring alalahanin ang ating kasaysayan. Ang pag-alala ay hindi lamang pagbabalik sa nakaraan, kundi pagkilala sa mga pagkakamaling hindi na dapat maulit at sa pananagutang hindi dapat hinahayaang makalimutan.
