Mga batchmates at classmates, miss mo na rin ba ang UPLB? 🥹 Uwi ka na rin this 108th Loyalty Day and Alumni Homecoming!

A long-standing UPLB tradition, Loyalty Day brings together generations of alums & members of the UPLB community to reconnect with old friends, revisit familiar places, and celebrate fond memories of their alma mater. It also commemorates the volunteerism and “UPLB Spirit” demonstrated by students and faculty members of the then UP College of Agriculture who enlisted for the Philippine National Guard on October 10, 1918.

A GREAT PLACE TO START!

Before it became a massive world-class research center, the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) literally started inside tents right here in Barangay Timugan!

Back on March 6, 1909, American botanist Dr. Edwin B. Copeland opened the doors to the UP College of Agriculture (UPCA) with just 5 professors and 12 students. With no permanent site yet, classes were held in the houses of American teachers (led by Dean Copeland himself) or under tents borrowed from Camp Eldridge.

UPLB will celebrate its 108th Loyalty Day this coming Saturday, October 10! If you happen to be in town, take time to visit the UPLB Foundation Site (Pook Pinagtatagan)—a living testament to the university’s storied beginnings. What started with just 12 students using borrowed tents as classrooms has morphed into generations of "Iskolars ng Bayan," statesmen, scientists, and changemakers whose spirit of service and loyalty continues to impact the world today.

VISITING LOS BAÑOS ANYTIME SOON? Make sure to drop by the UPLB Foundation Site in Barangay Timugan to see where the story really started!
