𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗿. 𝗙𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼 𝗖. 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘇, 𝗝𝗿. 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟯𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗨𝗣 𝗔𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗻𝗶 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁!

Dr. Sanchez's relentless and dedicated character shines from his leadership, his commitment as an educator and a researcher. He is currently holding and has held important positions in UPLB and the UP System and other illustrious organizations. He was the 9th Chancellor of UPLB, serving two terms from 2014 to 2020. He has been a Landscape Horticulture Professor under the College of Agriculture and Food Science since 1988, an affiliate faculty of the School of Environmental Science and Management (SESAM). Notably, he is the National President of the Philippine Association of Agriculturists, Inc. (PAA), the President of the International Society for Southeast Asian Agricultural Sciences (ISSAAS) Philippines Chapter, and President of the University of the Philippines Alumni Association, Inc. (UPAA, Inc.), to name a few.

Dr. Sanchez is active in his research endeavors, being the project leader of the Edible Landscaping Team of UPLB, specifically in promoting and disseminating the technology towards achieving food and nutrition security in the Philippines and the research project “Development of a Hybrid Water-Related Disaster Risk Assessment Technology for Sustainable Local Economic Development Policy under Climate Change in the Philippines” (HyDEPP), supported by the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).

With his productive efforts and excellence, he was awarded in 2022, the UPLB School of Environmental Science and Management awarded him the Distinguished Alumni Award in Academic Leadership and in 2024, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs conferred the prestigious “Foreign Minister’s Commendation Award” for his efforts to foster collaboration in agriculture and academia.

ICropS welcomed around 260 BS Agriculture, BS Food Tech, and BS Biotech students to a food festival packed with crop-based snacks, fun games, and prizes last September 15. It was a chance for the students to connect with the ICropS staff and kick off their UPLB journey.

🌱⚗️Fusion of Plasma Technology and Seed Science

ICropS researchers participated in The 6th International Symposium of the Vacuum Society of the Philippines (ISVSP) & 19th International Conference on Plasma Science and Applications (ICPSA) at Batangas State University, Batangas City on September 16–18, 2026.

Under the theme “Net Zero, Sustainability Targets, and Emerging Applications of Vacuum and Plasma Sciences,” the team presented their paper, “Plasma-Activated Water (PAW) as a Seed Revitalization Technology for Deteriorated Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L.)) Seed.” The symposium highlighted plasma science as a novel, viable technology not only in engineering but also for bioscience and agriculture.

The UPhilSAMS Alumni Association is now accepting applications for 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 to support qualified members for the First Semester in the Academic Year 2026-2027.

3. 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁: Up to PHP 5,000 for transportation, meals, and work materials
