Assistant Professor II Cyril John C. Nagal of the College of Agriculture at USTP Claveria secured the 3rd Best Research Presenter award at the 2026 International Extension Symposium and Technology Forum (IESTF), held at Cebu Technological University โ€“ Main Campus from May 20โ€“22, 2026. Organized by the PAEPI Central Visayas Chapter, the event highlighted Nagalโ€™s study, "KwentaBasa: A Literacy and Numeracy Extension Program for School-Aged Children in a Rural Philippine Community." The Magsaysay College conducted its benchmarking activity at the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines Claveria Campus highlighted a productive institutional exchange focused on academic, administrative, and research best practices. The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Extension (OVCRIE) actively participated by presenting and integrating its role in advancing research frameworks, innovation systems, and extension linkages alongside other university offices.

Through coordinated sharing with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Research Office, and Extension and Community Relations Office, OVCRIE contributed to a comprehensive understanding of USTP Claveriaโ€™s operations. The engagement allowed Magsaysay College delegates to explore how institutional systems work together to support research-driven and community-oriented initiatives, culminating in an open forum and campus tour that reinforced inter-institutional learning and collaboration.

LAMBIGIT 2026: 3rd Northern Mindanao Research and Innovation Summit convened researchers, faculty members, students, innovators, and institutional partners from Northern Mindanao on April 28 to 30, 2026 in Cagayan de Oro City. Bukidnon State University and the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines spearheaded the summit to advance research collaboration, innovation development, and interinstitutional engagement in the region. The activity centered on the theme, โ€œFrom Research to Real-World Solutions: Powering Northern Mindanaoโ€™s Innovation Ecosystem,โ€ which guided research dissemination and presentation of outputs across participating institutions.

USTP Claveria, through the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Extension, participated in the academic evaluation of research outputs presented during the summit. Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Extension Dr. Eric Randy R. Politud and Research Director Engr. Val Irvin Mabayo evaluated poster presentations from various institutions, contributing to the assessment of research quality and relevance. Their involvement reflected USTP Claveriaโ€™s engagement in regional research dissemination and its contribution to scholarly evaluation processes within interinstitutional academic platforms.

Engr. Nathaniel Quimada, Director of the Innovation and Technology Support Office, together with Engr. Maricel Villamor, participated in the evaluation of research abstracts submitted by different higher education institutions. Their participation supported the academic screening and assessment of research studies presented during the summit, maintaining research standards and strengthening collaboration in regional scholarly activities.

Ms. Michelle P. Arnan, Executive Assistant to the VCRIE, together with Mr. Renan Octavio and Mr. Roswin Sevandal, Faculty of the College of Agriculture, attended the MINDSPRING: Faculty Bootcamp, a parallel activity of LAMBIGIT 2026 focused on Technology Business Incubator (TBI) roadmap development. The session took place on April 30, 2026 at Mallberry Suites Business Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City, where participating higher education institutions presented institutional outputs, plans, and implementation strategies.

The summit concluded with oral and poster presentation sessions and academic engagements that highlighted research studies and innovation initiatives in education, agriculture, environmental management, governance, and industry. The event strengthened institutional linkages among higher education institutions, government agencies, and innovation stakeholders in advancing research utilization and innovation development across Northern Mindanao.

USTP Claveria, through the College of Agriculture and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Extension, welcomed representatives from Center for International Forestry Research - World Agroforestry and Desjardins International Development on May 4, 2026 for an exploratory meeting on the KLIMA Philippines Project. The discussion focused on possible collaboration on cacao, coconut cultivation, and agroforestry systems in Bukidnon and Misamis Oriental. Both institutions also exchanged information on research, extension, and community engagement related to climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction.

The meeting also included discussions on the upcoming stakeholdersโ€™ consultation forum for the six year KLIMA project funded by Global Affairs Canada. The project aims to support women agro entrepreneurs engaged in coffee, cacao, and coconut value chains through resilience and livelihood programs.

On May 5, 2026, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Extension and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs of University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines Claveria jointly organized Bridging Industry Needs and Academic Research: A Reverse Pitching Initiative for Undergraduate Thesis Development at the Admin Function Hall, USTP Claveria.

Through the reverse pitching approach, industry partners presented operational challenges, system gaps, and sector specific concerns that may serve as research opportunities for undergraduate students from the different colleges and academic programs of the university. These identified concerns will guide students in developing research based solutions and thesis projects that respond to actual industry and community needs.

The event advanced the universityโ€™s commitment to integrating the world of work into higher education through stronger collaboration among industry, research, innovation, and academic programs. It emphasized the institutionโ€™s role in cultivating research initiatives that are grounded in practical realities, responsive to societal needs, and contributory to innovation and development across sectors.
