Following the Edict of Claudius in A.D. 49, Jewish Christians were expelled from Rome, leaving behind an entirely Gentile-led church that discarded many Jewish cultural traditions. When the Jewish believers returned five years later, they clashed with the Gentile Christians, creating a massive cultural and religious divide.
Paul’s revolutionary solution was to dismantle the pride of both groups with the "scandal of grace".
