Surigao del Norte State University โ Claver Campus conducted a First Aid and Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Training at the SNSU Claver Function Hall, centered on the theme, โEmpowering Every Employee with Life-Saving Skills, Workplace Safety, and Gender-Responsive Emergency Preparedness.โ
The training aimed to strengthen the participantsโ knowledge and preparedness in responding to workplace emergencies while promoting a safer, more inclusive, and gender-responsive environment.
The program featured Sir Gilberto P. Lacbayo as one of the speakers, who discussed Gender Sensitivity, emphasizing the importance of understanding gender-related concerns and fostering respect, inclusivity, and sensitivity in the workplace.
The training also featured FO2 Jhun Mar E. Larong, FO2 Marvelyn E. Relleta, and FO1 Mercy S. Amarille of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), who facilitated the First Aid Training. The BFP personnel demonstrated proper emergency response procedures, including appropriate actions during incidents such as drowning and choking.
To reinforce the lessons, faculty members, University Student Council (USC) officers, and ROTC officers actively participated in practical demonstrations. The hands-on activities allowed participants to apply the concepts discussed and gain greater confidence in responding to emergency situations.
The event was organized through the initiative of Maโam Johna E. Lacbayo, GAD Coordinator, and Dean Mark A. Ogaob, OSH Coordinator, highlighting the institutionโs commitment to strengthening workplace safety, gender responsiveness, and emergency preparedness.
Through the training, SNSU Claver emphasized that workplace safety goes beyond awarenessโit requires knowledge, readiness, and the confidence to act when lives are at risk. The skills and lessons gained by the participants are expected to contribute to a safer and more prepared campus community.
