𝙉𝙀𝙒𝙎 | 𝐁𝐒𝐀 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐔𝐍𝐏 𝐚𝐭 𝟏𝟐𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐘𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐂, 𝐀𝐀𝐄𝐖 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐚

To strengthen the foundation and teaching skills of accountancy educators, Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSA) program faculty members attended the 12th Mid-Year Accounting Teachers’ International Conference (MYATIC) and ASEAN Accounting Education Workshop (AAEW) held October 27 to 30 at CamEd Business School in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

With the theme “Accounting Teachers in Mission: Leading with Impact,” the event gathered accounting educators and leaders from across ASEAN to exchange insights on emerging practices and global standards in accounting education.

BSA Program Head Mary Ann Dela Cruz, CPA, MBA, and instructors Geofed Jhon Ngayaan, CPA, MBA, and Mark Louie Battad, CPA, represented the University of Northern Philippines (UNP), underscoring the program’s commitment to expounding boundaries in accountancy.

“The main reason for these large international conferences is to ensure all schools are teaching accounting at the same high level,” Battad said in an online interview.

“We should admit that the Philippines is somewhat left behind in terms of accounting education. Currently, we prepare our students to become CPAs only within our boundaries, which means they are not recognized outside the country,” he added.

During the conference, participants engaged in 10 technical sessions that tackled curriculum benchmarking, the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence in research, and Cambodia’s sustainability roadmap.

Succeeding sessions focused on sustainability through technology and governance, strategic reporting, and research innovations, culminating with discussions on the future of finance and best teaching practices among ASEAN accounting educators.

Three technical sessions were also done in the AAEW forum, exploring innovative practices, real-world application, and transformative insights shaping the future of the accounting classroom.

“As a university representative, I gained insights from across ASEAN and from international lecturers,” Battad said.

“I will use these learnings not just for my own growth but also to inspire my students to pursue international certifications and career paths, preparing them to become globally competitive accountants,” he further shared.

The BSA faculty’s participation in the MYATIC and AAEW reflected their commitment to producing globally competitive CPAs through strengthening the academic foundation at the undergraduate level, ensuring that they are equipped with excellence, integrity, and global competence.

𝙉𝙀𝙒𝙎 | 𝐁𝐒𝐀 𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐧𝐚 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝟖𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐅𝐌𝐒 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦

Angelica Mae Paculan Tabion, a magna cm laude graduate of the Bachelor of Science in Accountancy Batch 2024, secured the 8th spot, obtaining an impressive rating of 91.25 percent on the recent Certified Financial Management Specialist (CFMS) examination.

The Center for Professional Advancement and Continuing Education, Inc. (CPACE Philippines) released the results on August 21. The examination was held virtually on August 16, 2025.

“I only had roughly three weeks to prepare for the exam. Since I have a job, I could only study at night and during weekends. It was really hard because sometimes I felt drained from work, so I had to take some nights off to rest. But I always made sure that what I missed one day, I covered the next,” Tabion shared.

“Passing the CFMS exam is not just an additional title. It is a mark of our dedication to continuing professional development. Aside from that, I believe that being CFMS will open larger and better opportunities in my career path,” she said, narrating on how this achievement will impact her career and personal goals.

Her success adds another milestone to the record of excellence built by the BSA program, which continues to help students become fully equipped to excel in professional examinations.
