Empowering the force: UNP research advances Police Officers’ well-being and resilience

A research study titled “The Well-Being of Officers: Navigating Resilience, Optimizing Strength” was formally presented to the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) in San Fernando City, La Union on October 28, 2025. The presentation formed part of the academic initiatives of the College of Open and Distance Education (CODE) highlighting the institution’s commitment to advance research that supports the holistic development and resilience of law enforcement personnel.
The program opened with welcome remarks from Dr. Dolores Bersamina, Dean of CODE, setting a tone of collaboration and knowledge sharing for the event. This was followed by an inspirational message from Police Brigadier General Dindo Reyes, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 1, which was delivered on his behalf by Police Major Cresencio Abila Jr., Chief of the Discipline, Law and Order Section, RPRMD.
To provide context and direction for the gathering, Prof. Aurora Quero, Assistant Dean of College of Social Work, delivered the statement of purpose, emphasizing the importance of understanding police officers’ well-being in strengthening institutional resilience.
Dr. Bersamina and Prof. Quero then jointly presented their research study highlighting key findings and recommendations aimed at enhancing the mental health and performance of law enforcement personnel. The presentation was followed by an engaging discussion session, during which participants shared insights and raised questions that enriched the dialogue on wellness and resilience in police work.
Concluding the event, Mr. Jay Ar Joshua Tolentino, Unit Extension Coordinator, delivered the closing remarks, expressing gratitude to the participants and emphasizing the continuing relevance of research-based initiatives in promoting professional and personal growth among police officers.
