UNP Hosts Regional Oath-Taking Ceremony for Newly Licensed Midwives
The University of Northern Philippines (UNP) served as the regional venue for newly licensed midwives as it hosted the Regional Oath-Taking Ceremony for New Midwives at the UNP Gymnasium. The event was organized through the College of Health SciencesโMidwifery Program in collaboration with the Integrated Midwives Association of the Philippines (IMAP)โUNP Chapter, and in partnership with IMAP Ilocos Sur and IMAP Region I.
The ceremony brought together successful examinees, academic leaders, the Professional Regulation Commission Board of Midwifery , and midwifery practitioners from across the region, underscoring the importance of professional unity and ethical practice in maternal and community health.
Newly licensed midwives formally entered the profession through the administration of the oath, marking the culmination of years of academic training and clinical exposure.
UNP President Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna welcomed the delegates and guests, expressing the universityโs commitment to producing competent and service-oriented health professionals. During the program, he accepted a plaque of recognition on behalf of UNP as the official host institution. Together with Dr. Joussie B. Bermio, Dean of the College of Health Sciences, and Prof. Lowie Lynette Q. Basconcillo, Program Head of the Midwifery Program, he also received a commendation recognizing UNP as one of the top-performing institutions in the recently concluded Midwifery Licensure Examination (MLE).
Individual achievements were likewise highlighted as UNP-CHS regional best performers Judy Ann Paradero, Geraldine A. Palomares, and Lyssa Mariel Pasion were formally recognized for their outstanding examination results.
The highlight of the ceremony was the administration of the professional oath by Hon. Melchor C. dela Cruz, Jr., Chair of the Board of Midwifery, who also delivered the keynote address. In his message, he reminded the new midwives of their vital role in safeguarding maternal and neonatal health, particularly in grassroots communities. Atty. Arl Ruth B. Sacay-Sabelo, Director of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Region I, also addressed the inductees, emphasizing accountability, ethical practice, and lifelong learning.
Following the oath-taking, the new midwives pledged their membership to the Integrated Midwives Association of the Philippines (IMAP), led by Ms. Patricia M. Gomez, Executive Director of IMAP, and represented by Mrs. Elvie U. Estrada, President of IMAP Region I. The ceremony was attended by Mrs. Enriqueta G. Bautista, President of IMAP Ilocos Sur and IMAP National Officer, and Mr. Bhert Keane Q. Pugrad, President of the IMAP UNP Chapter, along with presidents of higher education institutions offering midwifery programs in the province.
The event concluded with a shared sense of pride and purpose, as the region welcomed a new cohort of midwives ready to serve communities with competence, compassion, and professionalism.

Jomari Arista, a BS Medical Laboratory Science student and intern, won 1st place in the Undergraduate Thesis Presentation at the 3rd Regional Research, Development, and Innovation Symposium held at the Mariano Marcos State University, Batac Campus, Ilocos Norte, on November 26โ28.
Competing against various institutions and universities across Region 1, Arista topped the competition with his research study titled โMolluscicidal Activity of Gmelina arborea (Yamane) and Euphorbia splendens (Corona de Espina) Leaf Extracts Against Pomacea canaliculata (Golden Apple Snail).โ
Behind this success is Prof. Alfredo V. Corpuz, their thesis adviser, who guided and mentored them throughout the rigorous process of scientific research and innovation.

The Professional Regulation Commission has recognized the University of Northern Philippines as a Top Performing School in Midwifery, ranking 5th nationwide in the November 2025 Midwifery Licensure Examination with an exceptional 91.18% passing rate (62 passers out of 68).
This marks UNPโs consistent recognition as a Top Performing School for five examination periods, a testament to sustained academic excellence and dedication.
The honor was formally conferred on December 14, 2025, at the Grand Ballroom, Century Park Hotel, Manila, celebrating the unwavering commitment of our students, the College of Health Sciences led by Dr. Joussie Bermio, its faculty, and the entire UNP community.
